Job Description
We are looking for a detail-focused Retail Buyer to oversee the procurement and merchandising of Chinese and Southeast Asian grocery products for a busy Asian supermarket. This role involves managing supplier relationships, responding to market trends, and ensuring the right product mix to meet customer demand.
Key Responsibilities:
Review sales reports and inventory movement, and interpret supplier communications and industry data to remain aware of market fluctuations and product availability.
Arrange procurement of goods by engaging with suppliers
Formulate and apply pricing frameworks, advertising initiatives, and in-store merchandising plans to support revenue growth.
Consult with management team to contribute to business strategies, including forward planning and promotional scheduling.
Prepare and adjust buying schedules in accordance with seasonal demand patterns and financial considerations.
Examine customer buying behaviour and cultural consumption trends to determine appropriate product lines, quantities, and quality levels.
Assess incoming products for compliance with quality expectations, packaging standards, and New Zealand food safety requirements.
Visit wholesalers, distributors, and trade events to identify new products and sourcing opportunities.
Consider and evaluate product samples and supplier proposals prior to range inclusion.
Coordinate with logistics and store operations to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained and wastage is reduced, particularly for short shelf-life items.
Pay rate: Minimum $29.00/ hour Maximum $35.00/ hour
Guaranteed hours of work per week: Minimum 30 hours, permanent full-time
Requirements for the job:
You should have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in the same industry or same field.
Good understanding of Chinese and Southeast Asian food products and consumer preferences is advantage
Knowledge of New Zealand food safety and import regulations is advantageous.
Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
Ability to analyse sales data and market trends to inform purchasing decisions.
Strong organizational and communication skills
Full time availability
Able to work on Monday – Sunday
