VPS Grade 3: $79,122 - $96,073 plus superannuation.
About the Business Unit:
Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services provides legal, policy, integrity and assurance expertise to the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) and Justice Ministers. Integrity and Reviews provides integrity and assurance expertise and the DJCS staff supporting the operation of the Post Sentence Authority and the Inspector-General for Emergency Management.
The Justice Assurance and Review Office (JARO) assists the Secretary to ensure that adult prisons and youth justice facilities are safe, secure and humane. It provides high-quality advice on areas of risk and opportunities for improvement in corrections and youth justice. JARO's key activities include:
reviewing all deaths in adult prisons and youth justice facilities
reviewing select deaths of offenders in the community
assessing and reviewing serious and significant incidents such as assaults, riots and escapes from custody
conducting thematic reviews and targeted analysis of issues posing systemic risks
monitoring and assessing serious incidents that affect the performance of the systems, including youth justice precincts, youth justice community services, prisons, Community Correctional Services and prisoner transportation
administering the Independent Prison Visitor Scheme on behalf of the Minister for Corrections.
About the Role:
The Review Support Officer reports to the Manager, Reviews.
Some of your duties will include:
Coordinating and tracking all outgoing information requests, stakeholder notifications and other administrative duties as required - this includes monitoring the JARO inbox and liaising with stakeholders such as Corrections Victoria, Youth Justice, Community Correctional Services, Justice Health and the Coroners Court of Victoria
Preparing, collating and updating information relevant to JARO assessment and review activities, including but not limited to death reviews, reviews of major incidents in the youth justice and corrections systems and thematic reviews
Developing an understanding of risk-based methodologies and the JARO Risk Assessment Framework to identify risks to, and improvements in, the youth justice and corrections systems.

About You:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
The ability to prepare briefs, letters, emails and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language, as well as editing written communications to check that they contain the information necessary to achieve their purpose and meet audience needs while ensuring appropriate style and formats are used
Experience working in the criminal justice system is desirable, in particular youth justice and/or corrections.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and information management systems.
Qualifications/Requirements
No mandatory qualifications, however completion of a recognised and relevant tertiary qualification is highly desirable.
