Digital Media Trust (DMT) is an independent charitable trust that produces two websites; ‘NZ On Screen’ and ‘AudioCulture’. DMT’s purpose is to provide, bring context and understanding, and enable enjoyment of Aotearoa’s popular culture and its history. They are primarily funded by NZ On Air and supported by the generosity of the New Zealand screen and music industries.

NZ On Screen is the online showcase of notable New Zealand television, film, music video and web series. It makes screen content freely available to the people of New Zealand and supports and celebrates the screen industry.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Rights & Sourcing Executive will be responsible for managing all rights, licensing and digital sourcing matters for the NZ On Screen website. This will include liaising with television, film and music industry organisations as well as content owners and individuals to negotiate licensing agreements, secure rights and source materials.


Key responsibilities include:

Working with the NZ On Screen Content Director to prioritise titles to be licensed for the site
Researching and documenting titles in relation to rightsholders, copyright status and availability
Liaising with industry content partners as well as broadcasters and independents
Ensuring licence agreements have been executed for titles before they are passed to the NZ On Screen content team for preparation for publication
Updating relevant documentation and database records
Providing regular reports on progress, as required
Working with the Executive Director and Content Director to report on rights issues that may arise
Sourcing materials once the rights have been secured including digital copies of video content, stills and publicity materials.

This is a varied and busy role that will draw on your interpersonal and relationship-building capabilities, attention to detail, and influencing and negotiating skills. Your ability to communicate effectively and foster good working relationships and work effectively across the DMT team and wider industry will be the true measure of how successful you will be in this role.

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Wellington Central. While there will be some flexible working arrangements available, at least three of the five week days will be office based.

Person Profile:

Proven experience in copyright or licensing role, or similar
Solid understanding of copyright law and licensing principles
Experience in managing contractual agreements
Well-developed written and oral communications skills
Excellent relationship building and networking capabilities and ability to relate at all levels
Good research skills and ability to identify new relationships/contracts/content opportunities
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong negotiation and influencing skills, ability to secure an agreement
Display high levels of professional integrity and confidentiality at all times
Have a positive, warm, friendly and approachable disposition
Understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi and te ao Māori
Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
