Job Description
- Provide medical care and management to critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), under the supervision and direction of attending intensivists and senior medical staff.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations, review of medical history, and interpretation of diagnostic tests and imaging studies, to evaluate and monitor patients' clinical status and response to treatment.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals, to develop and implement individualized care plans for ICU patients based on clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice.
- Perform and assist with common ICU procedures, such as endotracheal intubation, central venous catheterization, arterial line placement, chest tube insertion, and bedside ultrasound-guided procedures, with proficiency and adherence to safety protocols.
- Manage and monitor patients requiring mechanical ventilation, including ventilator settings adjustment, interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs), weaning protocols, and troubleshooting ventilator alarms, in collaboration with respiratory therapists and intensivists.
- Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and other treatments as prescribed by attending physicians, ensuring accurate dosing, administration, and documentation in patients' medical records.
- Respond promptly to changes in patients' condition, acute clinical deterioration, and medical emergencies in the ICU, providing timely intervention, resuscitation, and stabilization as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers, providing updates on patients' clinical status, explaining treatment plans, addressing concerns, and facilitating shared decision-making regarding patient care.
