Full job description
Holloway Paving, a local full-service asphalt paving company, is seeking to hire an experienced asphalt paving screed operator.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Operate asphalt paver and/or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specification as instructed by the superintendent to ensure daily schedules/ estimates are met.
Understand normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finished cross sections of asphalt material via screed controls.
Must perform additional tasks of other positions as needed or instructed by the foreman/ superintendent.
Maintain asphalt paving equipment by oiling, greasing, maintaining and servicing as required.
Guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to the machine hopper when operating the paver.
Observe and maintain output of material over surfaces to ensure uniform distribution.
Use depth gauge to verify depth specifications of compacted asphalt.
Promote, execute and adhere to all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
Ability to do manual labour as required including shovelling, raking, saw cutting, plate tamping, shovelling, barricade placement, operate small power tools, etc.
Work overtime as required.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
Thorough understanding of all aspects of paving industry such as prep work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
Physical stamina and preparedness for hot outdoor temperatures.
Tickets and training are an asset (First Aid & CPR Level C, Construction Safety Training, WHMIS, Ground Disturbance, etc)
Be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must have a driver’s license, your own transportation and CSA steel toed boots.
Be willing to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.
Must have excellent communication and ability to work with the crew along with supervisors, management, contractors and the general public.
