Responsibilities
The Protective Force Officer (PFO) is responsible for conducting security patrols, controlling access to the NREL premises, responding to emergencies, and ensuring the safety of the NREL community in accordance with Department of Energy (DOE) regulations
This role requires a high degree of professionalism, emergency response preparedness, and the ability to operate security systems effectively
Conduct vehicle and foot patrols to observe, report, and maintain safety on NREL premises
Control access to NREL grounds through entrance gate management, badge checks, and vehicle searches
Utilize security systems (C-Cure Monitoring Station, Ocularis surveillance cameras, and Central Monitoring Station) to identify alarms and respond to incidents
Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and incidents with appropriate support
Operate a Central Monitoring Station (CMS) for dispatching during emergencies and handling security-related alarms (fire, gas, medical emergencies)
Submit detailed reports on shift activities, incidents, and observations
Enforce NREL policies, DOE orders, and maintain necessary certifications
Provide professional support to the NREL community, guests, visitors, and external agencies
