Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen in accordance with DOE O 471.7
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of relevant security experience, or an Associate’s Degree in a related field
Red Cross Training (First Aid/AED/CPR)
FEMA IS-100C and IS-700B certifications
Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) clearance (must be obtained within 6 months)
NREL-led orientation and emergency response training (ERT/ENS)
NREL Fire Control Panel (FACP) training (within 3 months)
Valid Colorado driver’s license
Pass a pre-placement screening, including a background check and drug screening (marijuana use not permitted)
Must meet medical and behavioral health screening in accordance with 10 CFR Part 1046
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel)
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment
Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively
Officers must complete and maintain emergency response and federal training certifications as per DOE and NREL standards
By June 2026, at least one officer per shift must hold a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (TSSCI) or Q clearance

Responsibilities
The Protective Force Officer (PFO) is responsible for conducting security patrols, controlling access to the NREL premises, responding to emergencies, and ensuring the safety of the NREL community in accordance with Department of Energy (DOE) regulations
This role requires a high degree of professionalism, emergency response preparedness, and the ability to operate security systems effectively
