Security Technician

Description

We’re seeking a Security Technician who will play a key role in troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining security systems for our valued client. The ideal Security Technician will be someone who takes pride in delivering top-quality service, values safety and compliance and enjoys mentoring others. As part of the team, you’ll ensure the highest levels of safety, reliability, and functionality for security systems, including alarms, CCTV, and access control systems.

We have a variety of jobs across the Wellington region. Wellington will be the predominant area of work for this role; however, you may also be required to work in the Hawkes Bay region. This will be discussed further with the successful applicant.

Key Responsibilities:System Installation & Maintenance:
Assemble and install various security systems, including intruder alarms, CCTV, access control, wiring, and other equipment.
Use hand tools and power tools to complete installations according to specifications and safety standards.
Maintain and upgrade existing systems to ensure they operate at peak performance and meet the required standards.
Troubleshooting & Testing:
Test, inspect and diagnose security systems to ensure components and wiring are free of any defects, malfunctions, or hazards and that they are functioning correctly and safely.
Perform necessary repairs or adjustments on faulty systems, ensuring compliance with industry codes and regulations.
Compliance & Safety:
Follow NZSA regulations and safety standards on every job, ensuring full compliance with legal and company requirements.
Ensure all work complies with the Health and Safety Act by using appropriate PPE and reporting any incidents or accidents promptly.
Leadership:
Lead by example and serve as a role model for the team, especially for apprentices, ensuring they meet the highest standards.
Coach, mentor, and guide apprentices by providing training and hands-on learning opportunities to improve their skills and understanding of security systems.
Documentation & Reporting:
Complete all necessary documentation related to security work accurately and in a timely manner.
Ensure that all paperwork, including service reports and compliance records, is kept up-to-date for both internal use and customer reference.
Team Collaboration & Customer Service:
Work collaboratively with team members, providing support where needed and sharing knowledge to drive continuous improvement.
Engage with clients to provide excellent customer service, ensuring that their needs are understood and security solutions are delivered to the highest standard.
Skills & Experience:
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients, team members, and management.
Leadership Skills: Ability to inspire and guide apprentices, providing leadership and mentorship to foster skill development and professional growth.
Organisational Skills: Able to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize workloads, and manage time effectively to ensure that work is completed to a high standard.
Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to addressing security system issues and finding effective solutions.

Regular hours with a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week.
Ideally, you will be or have:
Technical Expertise: 3 years of experience working with security systems, including alarms, CCTV, access control systems, and wiring
Qualifications: NZQF Level 3 or 4 in Security or related fields preferred
Licensing: A current PSPLA (Private Security Personnel License); COA and/or EST beneficial
Your own tools
Own reliable transport
At least 2 work references
Able to pass a pre-employment drug test
Class 1 preferred but not essential
