Job Description
My name is Neil and I’m a writer, podcaster, and speaker.
(Full bio here: https://www.neil.blog/about-neil)
Spiking anxiety, scrolling addictions, fragmented media, AI-overwhelm, rising loneliness, destabilizing realities, plummeting societal trust makes life challenging for many. I have spent >15 years trying to infuse positivity into the puddle of overwhelm.
I started because I needed it.
I still do!
And I need help.
I’m looking for someone speedy, tech-savvy, hyper-organized, literary-geeky, perhaps-a-little-ADHD (like me), just generally excited by wild and unpredictable requests at wild and unpredictable times.
It’d be great if you were good at Kit, Twitter Advanced Search, Instagram, YouTube, Wordperss, Dropbox, Squarespace, and Google Docs. Or at least most of them! And then speed-learning the one or two you're missing before you apply.
You will:
1. Help manage my newsletters. I have four! It's where I publish my latest thoughts. A daily awesome thing, bi-weekly blog post (on Neil.blog), bi-weekly podcast (3books.co), and a monthly book club. You will help source content, link-i-fy, proofread, upload to Kit, be ‘first eyes and last eyes’ on everything, etc.
2. Help manage my social media. You will stay in-tune with what the quarter-million people we speak to daily are feeling—what they need & want. You will be deeply ******** with all my stuff so you can work, splice, remix, rewrite. You may plan and propose posts. (Note: I also have a design / graphics person who you will help manage.)
3. Help manage my podcast. You will research prospective guests, write detailed show notes, prepare and edit audio / video files and transcripts, be ‘first listener’ and propose edits, brainstorm titles, etc. (Note: I also have a podcast editor who you will help manage.)
4. Help manage … other. There is always a grab bag full of wild requests. “Can you pull anything I’ve written on topic X on this ‘trust book’ I’ve been working on for 7 years – and tell me what the gaps are?” “Can you have books waiting for me in each of these three hotels next week?”, “Can you manage, organize, and send creative gifts to X, Y, and Z?”, “Can you propose three people we should interview on super-niche topic X?”, “I am stranded in Detroit – can you help get me home?” etc, etc.
Please email me your resume along your tweet-length answers to i) What are your 3 most formative books?, ii) What are the last 3 podcast episodes you listened to (and what did you take from them)?, iii) What's one problem you solved for someone recently and how did you approach it, iv) How do you organize your bookshelf or computer or inbox (pick one)?
Lastly, please make the subject of your email I AM AWESOME plus a short alliterative phrase that describes you.
Again, I would like this all emailed to me. I will not check things on this site. I only want your response to this emailed me. And you can CC on your email [email protected] too, please. (She's doing the job now and has done amazingly well for 2 years but is going back to law school in August. Bonus—you get to learn from someone super awesome.)
Hope to hear from you!
