Senior Accountant
The Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to manage our accounting operations from our Las Vegas office. You’ll oversee multi-state tax compliance, subscription revenue recognition, and vendor and contractor payments using the accrual method. This in-office role is perfect for an expert who thrives on ensuring accuracy, navigating complex tax landscapes, and supporting a dynamic online business.
Key Responsibilities
Multi-State Tax Compliance: Track sales tax nexus thresholds across U.S. states, manage collection and remittance in multiple states, and prepare state income tax filings based on revenue apportionment.
Accrual Accounting in Quickbooks: Maintain accurate books using the accrual method, recognizing subscription revenue, reconciling accounts, and managing deferred revenue schedules.
Contractor Payments: Review the contractors workload, process payments to contractors, ensure proper tax documentation (e.g., W-+ or W-8BEN-E).
Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow) to provide insights on revenue trends and profitability.
Tax Strategy: Monitor nexus triggers, recommend tax-efficient practices, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and international regulations.
Subscription Revenue Management: Track recurring payments, churn, and refunds, ensuring accurate revenue recognition in Quickbooks.
Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with GAAP and tax regulations. Maintain audit-ready records, file timely tax returns (e.g., sales tax, state income tax), and implement internal controls to mitigate risks.
Collaboration: Work with leadership to explain tax obligations and support operational teams with financial processes (e.g., sales tax collection).
Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in a tech, SaaS, or online subscription-based business.
Multi-State Tax Expertise: Proven ability to manage sales tax nexus, collections, and state income tax filings across multiple U.S. jurisdictions.
QuickBooks Mastery: Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks, with hands-on experience in accrual accounting and subscription revenue tracking.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights using tools like QuickBooks and Excel.
Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail to ensure compliance and accuracy in a multi-state, multi-currency environment.
Problem-Solving: Ability to research and adapt to evolving tax laws and accounting challenges.
Communication: Clear verbal and written skills to collaborate with teams and liaise with tax authorities or contractors.
Location Requirement: Must be willing to work full-time from our Las Vegas, NV office.
Preferred Qualifications
SaaS Experience: Background in accounting for software-as-a-service or subscription models.
CPA Certification: Certified Public Accountant credential is a plus but not required.
