Help drive our business towards a greener future

Be part of a collaborative, creative and innovative team who are working to optimise, develop and integrate renewable energy projects in Western Australia

Flexible working arrangements such as job share, part time and full time, based in Central Park – Perth CBD

As one of the world’s largest industrial users of energy, Rio Tinto has a unique challenge in the energy transition. The Renewable Energy Western Australia (REWA) team is part of the Rio Tinto Energy & Climate (RTEC) group led by the Chief Decarbonisation Officer. The team leads the renewable energy program within Western Australia by working collaboratively across the business to deliver on our climate commitments while ensuring our business is well positioned for the future low-carbon economy.

Rio Tinto’s iron ore operations include an electrical network of 1,000km of transmission lines, multiple 220kV substations, gas turbine generators, solar generation and battery storage feeding mines across the Pilbara region.

About the role

To support this effort, we are looking for a collaborative and talented Senior Advisor Commercial to provide focused commercial input across studies and internal strategic initiatives. Reporting to the General Manager – Renewable Energy WA, you will work closely with studies, technical, business analysis, finance, legal, and other internal stakeholders to ensure that commercial structure, risk, and strategy are appropriately addressed in the program and throughout project life cycles.

As a Senior Advisor Commercial, you will:

Work independently to support multiple renewable energy project teams with commercial acumen, economic inputs, value trade-offs and strategic thinking.

Help maintain and update the system-level commercial model that supports option analysis, scenario planning and optimization of the development pathway.

Provide internal guidance on potential commercial structures, ownership models, partnerships and JV considerations as part of study deliverables.

Assist external negotiations of key commercial contracts and arrangements.

Liaise with legal, finance, business analysis and other teams to provide analysis, commercial acumen and clear recommendations into project-level decisions.

Assist in the preparation of business case inputs, strategic fit, value assessments and other documentation required by internal project governance processes.

About You

Commercially minded with experience in business analysis, commercial structuring, project evaluation or strategy – ideally within energy, infrastructure or mining.

Comfortable operating independently and supporting multiple concurrent initiatives.

Skilled at working within cross-functional project teams and influencing decisions through sound commercial logic and driving internal alignment.

Familiar with concepts like joint ventures, ownership models, and scenario analysis.

Organized, pragmatic and effective at translating complexity into action.

Experience with Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) or commercial energy contracting is not required but would be highly regarded.

Knowledge, experience and passion for renewable energy development is advantageous including an understanding of principles behind energy generation, storage technologies, grid integration, and transmission infrastructure.
