Department Description
The Emerging Technology team explores, validates, and implements new and upcoming technologies of relevance to Fidelity’s business and to the financial services industry in general. Our team of research analysts and engineers combine their passion for solving business needs through the lens of these emerging technologies and social trends. We also explore for interesting solutions and ideas across the fintech landscape and use our custom approach to test and validate their offerings in a rapid manner.
Purpose of the Role
The emerging techlogy team undertakes several research initiatives that need a more immersive look at the offering. This could be in the form a deep dive in the techloogy itself or the evaluation of a solution from an external vendor. There is also the need work on targeted prototypes to business problems using these emerging technologies.
The person in the role will be expected to have a generalist profile to on a varied set of technologies and partner with the other develpors across the innovation team.
Key Responsibilities
• Take ownership of delivery and evaluation activities including planning and technical decisions
• Support the innovation team in the planning and definition of features and stories
• Provide expertise in technical analysis and solving technical issues during project delivery.
• Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of business, such as architecture and infrastructure, integrate to accomplish business goals
• Maintain continued curiosity in the new technologies and share those learnings with the innovation team
• Serve as advisor or coach to mid-level developers and analysts when needed
• Assist in the evaluation of fintechs and their products from time to time
• Assist is the writing and publication of research papers on new technologies and methodologies
Experience And Qualifications Required
• Proven experience as a full stack developer or similar role
• Experience developing desktop and mobile applications
• Familiarity with common stacks
• Extensive knowledge and experience with front-end languages and libraries such as JavaScript, XML, HTML/ CSS, jQuery
• Extensive knowledge and experience with back-end languages such as Python, C#, Java, and JavaScript frameworks including Angular, React, Node.js)
• Experience with Web REST Services
• Experience with AWS / Azure cloud environment.
• Experience with CI/CD
• Experience of integration patterns and working with APIs
• Experience & good understanding of full development life cycle
• Experience & good understanding of networking, topology and http protocols
• Experience in the use of a source control management system like Git.
• Familiarity with databases and web servers
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Great attention to detail and strong organisational skills
• Strong understanding of usability, UX/UI and user centred design
• Experience working in agile teams
• Degree in Computer Science, Statistics or relevant field
