An exciting opportunity to join BNZ as a Senior Automation Tester in Wellington!

We sat down with our Engineering Lead (who you’d report to) and he let us know the following about the tūranga (role):
What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
Conduct both manual and automated tests on new features and existing bug fixes to identify any issues or deviations from expected behavior.
Create and update automated test scripts to enhance and maintain the continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipeline, ensuring consistency and efficiency in testing.
Work closely with developers , PO and business analysts within an agile framework, participating in ceremonies like stand-ups and retrospectives to ensure a shared understanding of quality.
Actively investigate reported bugs by reproducing them and gathering detailed information to help developers find solutions quickly.
As a team member, contribute to defining testing plan for new projects, mentor junior testers, and serve as a go-to person for quality-related questions within the team

You will be testing, and maintaining applications in the financial crime domain. That means your work will directly help keep everyday kiwis safe and keep the bank compliant with regulations. You will be the subject matter expert in the team for Java Springboot so there is a lot of opportunity for mentorship. You will also be provided endless learning opportunities in Cloud, development, IaC, leadership and many more.
What will success look like for the candidate in this role?
We are looking for someone with both hard and soft skills. They need to have great grasp on technical understandings, and testing best practices. As well as great communication skills, attention to detail and not afraid to question the team.

What technical skills / skills are REQUIRED for this role?
Cloud & Containerization – Kubernetes (K8s) and Amazon EKS for microservice deployments
Messaging Systems – hands-on with Apache Kafka and Message Queues (MQ)
API Testing & Automation – Postman, REST Assured framework, service contracts testing
Automation Frameworks – ability to design, maintain, and scale automated regression suites
Performance Testing – JMeter (load, stress, scalability, and reliability testing)
Microservices Architecture – testing strategies for distributed systems, inter-service communication, and resilience
DevOps & CI/CD Tools – Jenkins pipelines, Bitbucket/Git version control, and build automation
Agile Tools – Jira for defect tracking, test management, and sprint planning
Strong hands-on experience with ETL testing, including ETL pipeline, ETL test automation, data transformation, integration testing, and SQL scripting.
Experience with Snowflake and Airflow
