We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to be part of our Engineering team.

What you'll be doing:
Reporting to the Director of Software Engineer, Data Platform, the Senior Backend Engineer will be part of the foundational Engineering team in our growing Pune office. You will be critical in the evolution of our next-generation Databricks/Spark-based data platform and help scale our ecosystem along with our processing ever-increasing volumes of data. You’ll take advantage of burst scaling and distributed computing paradigms in our backend pipeline. You'll participate in our team discussions on solution implementation and design explorations and work on custom customer-specific extensions or features.
You will:
• Be ready to collaborate closely with North American team to establish support and enforce best practices for existing customers and onboard new ones.
• Participate with troubleshooting customer onboarding, urgent engineering problems, and security operations.
• Advocate for efficiencies for product quality, security, and performance.
• Develop features and improvements to the Forma.ai product.
• Spot technical debts as they arise, present solutions, and solve for them.
• Ship features and enhancements with minimal guidance from team.
• Be in our Pune office 3-days a week (hybrid).
Technologies we use:
• Backend: Python, Django, Postgres
• Data Processing and Orchestration: Databricks/Spark/Delta Lake
• Infrastructure: AWS, Docker, Fargate, ECS, EKS, GitHub Actions
What we're looking for:
• 5+ years as a Software Developer with significant professional experience in Python language equivalent.
• Proficient in SQL and has a background in traditional relational databases.
• Solve complex technical problems and own project from conception to production and from discussion to deployment.
• Communicate effectively and regularly to achieve alignment with peers while providing clear status updates.
• Self-starter with solution-oriented mindset.
• Ability to work in an agile and iterative software development process.
• Experience with schema design and dimensional data modelling.
• Communicate technical product issues across multiple teams like Product and Customer Onboarding teams and time zones.
• Demonstrate customer empathy and interest in being involved in the product direction.
Nice to have:
• Background in building data platforms with Spark (ideally on Databricks).
• Work in ETL technologies.
