Position Overview:
In this role, you will take full ownership of the BIM project life cycle, acting as the primary lead for 3D coordination and mechanical detailing. You will be responsible for integrating multi-discipline work into master models, resolving spatial conflicts, and ensuring all project information models specifically for large-scale commercial and educational facilities are accurate and production-ready. This is a leadership-track role where you will supervise a small team of drafters and oversee the standards for the entire CAD/BIM department.
Key Responsibilities:
• BIM Coordination & Detailing: Lead the coordination of 1/4" models; develop initial concepts and spatial allocations for mechanical equipment and ductwork pathways.
• Conflict Resolution: Actively monitor and resolve spatial conflicts within developing BIM models; participate in construction-phase coordination meetings with GCs and other trades.
• Departmental Leadership: Supervise and mentor junior drafting staff (currently a 2-person department); develop and implement CAD/BIM production standards and training programs.
• Mechanical Design & Surveying: Perform mechanical design tasks, including site surveys to identify existing conditions, feasibility studies, and cost estimating.
• Quality Assurance: Provide final QC/QA on all BIM production documents and construction drawings before they hit the shop floor for fabrication.
• Process Improvement: Research and recommend software/hardware upgrades to increase departmental productivity and accuracy.
Required Qualifications:
• Experience: 4+ years of experience in mechanical detailing and BIM coordination within the MEP or Sheet Metal trades.
• Technical Proficiency: Expert-level skills in AutoCAD and Revit are required.
• Software Toolkit: Proficiency in Navisworks (for coordination), Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, and the MS Office suite.
• Leadership: Proven ability to manage or lead a small team of drafters/detailers and handle multiple project deadlines simultaneously.
• Industry Knowledge: Specific experience with MEP multi-disciplinary coordination and a strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC/Ductwork).
• Education: Associate’s degree in Drafting/Design or a related professional certification is preferred.
