Senior BIM Designer
SUMMARY
As a Senior BIM Designer, you will execute design functions in support of our project teams. You will report to the Manager of BIM Design. Your mission will be to support the Manager of BIM Design by learning our BIM design processes, executing assigned design tasks, offering your support in process improvement, and eventually in training and mentoring junior team members. You will begin by playing a supporting role on projects, and work to become the lead BIM designer on projects.
You will use the latest technologies and processes to design high voltage electric utility infrastructure – primarily high voltage substations, but also providing some support for transmission line structure designs.
Personal Duties Responsibilities
· Develop viable conceptual design options based on limited field information, publicly available data, past projects, and industry norms.
· Build and maintain project models + files in BIM environment following prescribed standards.
· Integrate BIM models with design data in other CAD platforms to produce comprehensive construction documents.
o i.e.- integration of manufacturer shop drawings, owner standard drawings & details, or drawings from other design disciplines to produce a complete project drawing set.
· Produce documentation and model exports for various stages of design from conceptual design through record drawings.
· Incorporate as-builts, field-gathered data, and other 3rd party information in the production of engineered solutions and documentation; apply client-specific design elements and preferences.
· Effectively capture and implement all markups and comments from review sets the first time… others should not find things missed that were already noted once.
· Collaborate with teammates to manage design-related documentation (design files, redlines, revisions, etc.)
· Anticipate and resolve issues in construction sequence and field implementation of design.
· Communicate with project teams for progress updates.
· Drive standardization, efficiency, and consistency.
· Implement appropriate design tools, processes, routines, libraries, technologies.
· Maintain an awareness of industry norms and technological developments. Help keep us on the forefront of design technology.
· Balance innovation and standardization of work processes; prioritize simplicity.
· Participate in internal training and professional development opportunities.
· Participate in external training to maintain, sharpen, or advance knowledge and expertise.
· Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Position Qualifications
Required:
Five or more years of professional experience with the following:
· Collaborating with internal and external resources on engineering design projects, with an emphasis in structures, steel and foundations.
· Experience in the structural discipline of utility, industrial or commercial project design, in particular, design and detailing of steel structures and foundations.
· Proficiency with Microsoft 365/Office products.
· Expertise in BIM philosophy and design workflows (Autodesk Revit) for the design and delivery of power substation or industrial infrastructure projects.
· Passion for creating BIM models and high caliber production document sets… not just an interesting in “managing”, even our managers are active in production and we aim for excellence in all we do.
Minimum education and other requirements:
· Personal discipline and focus to work successfully as a member of a remote team.
· Attention to detail and a history of delivering a high level of quality.
· Bachelor of Science degree in a related technical discipline (i.e., design and drafting, electrical systems, information systems, construction management, etc.).
· Maintain a valid state Driver's License, clean driving record, and ability to operate a fleet vehicle according to our Fleet policy (note a fleet vehicle is not anticipated to be assigned as part of this role, however this remains a requirement).
· Travel: Approximately 15% travel for projects and travel to our home office, company events, and various potential offsite classes or conferences per year. Team members must be able to travel by flight or vehicle. Travel may vary depending on location of the team member performing these responsibilities, varying circumstances could increase travel to 25% or more.
· Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by role, or while visiting any field location or energized substations.
Preferred:
· 10+ years of experience in technical collaboration and communication with engineers, surveyors, GIS specialists, field technicians, and other electric utility industry, consulting, regulatory or supply chain professionals.
· Experience training users in design software and processes.
· Autodesk Revit - Certified Professional
