The role of an APS5 Senior Business Administration Officer in COBM is to support the achievement of operational outcomes in line with the department’s corporate plan and Biosecurity Operations Division business plan. The main duties of the roles include, but are not limited to:



• actively contributing to a range of Cargo Operations Pathway business management support functions

• assisting with the gathering of information from multiple sources to draft a range of written products including, but not limited to, briefs, reports, emails, ministerial responses and instructional material

• accurately collecting, managing and reporting on a range of information about branch/section decisions and activities that are captured in multiple departmental systems and bespoke reporting products

• ensuring accurate entry of data in systems and ensuring application of correct and consistent charges for operational services in line with department charging guidelines, and the accurate payment of services received

• responding to client inquiries in a professional and timely manner in accordance with the department’s Client Service Charter and standards

• conducting, if required, performance and development meetings with staff to achieve goals, including actively fostering employee engagement and development

• managing, responding to and disseminating electronic mail from the generic team inbox in a timely manner

• developing and maintaining relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve pathway business management objectives

• contributing to plans and objectives to support the short-term tasks of the relevant work area

• contributing to a collegiate approach within the team that promotes a culture of flexibility and improvement, sharing own expertise with others and actively participating in team activities

• promoting, modelling and ensuring adherence to the APS Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct

• promoting and ensuring compliance with departmental Work Health and Safety (WHS) and rehabilitation policies and guidelines and being alert for, and reporting risks to, WHS personnel.



Please note that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill multiple ongoing vacancies in the branch and that the roles may be able to be performed from any of the locations listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.



What we are looking for

Knowledge and experience

• Experience making decisions based on sound subject matter knowledge and professional judgement.

• A sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products together with the ability to quickly learn in-house IT systems.

• The capacity to quickly develop a solid understanding of relevant legislation, policies and guidelines.

• Knowledge of the department’s role in delivering national biosecurity operations is highly desirable but not mandatory.
