The Capital Projects Team function plays a critical role in delivering the capital infrastructure and capability needed to achieve some of Fonterra’s most important strategic business goals across our strategic Capital Projects. We specialise in planning, scoping, designing, and delivering large and complex investment projects alongside our national delivery partners. The successful outcomes are highly visible to the Fonterra Board, our Farmers, and the wider public. Our work is organised around four large portfolios of capital investment that target sustainability, environment, asset lifecycle, and growth. Each portfolio has a pipeline of complex programmes spanning many years.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Commercial & Contracts Manager to join our Capital team. This specialized role is pivotal in providing leadership and expertise in all aspects of construction and engineering contracts across our Global Engineering & Technical (GET) Portfolios of strategic Capital Projects. This position demands extensive knowledge and experience in managing complex, high-value contracts within the construction industry in New Zealand.

In this role, you will deliver capital supply and efficiency against market conditions, optimize deal structures, and achieve shared goals across diverse suppliers and categories. Your leadership will be instrumental in developing cutting-edge contracting models, enhancing procurement strategies, and fostering strong supplier partnerships. Reporting to our Capital Projects CoE Manager, you will manage our capital contracts templates, provide high-level commercial advice, act as a key advisor for any potential disputes and guide complex negotiations, while ensuring alignment with Fonterra’s values and strategic goals.

Key responsibilities include leading strategic contract management approaches, developing robust commercial processes, and managing the interface with strategic procurement. As part of our CoE function, you will contribute to the success of our Technical Excellence Capital Delivery Portfolios and play a key role in driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Please note that this role can be based at either our Auckland or Hamilton locations.

We are looking for a proactive and forward-thinking leader, a natural influencer with extensive experience contracting and delivering large scale, multi-faceted capital contracts. You will be eager to use your expertise to enable predictability, reliability, transparency, and accountability in implementing contracts & procurement strategies.

We want to hear from you if you have:

Qualification in Commercial, Law, Quantity Surveying or Construction Management, or equivalent work experience
Extensive experience in complex, high-value contract management within the construction industry
Experience leading the commercial elements of major/large-scale commercial &/or industrial construction projects
Capital delivery experience across complex procurement programmes and exposure to a variety of contracting methodologies
Ability to provide expert Legal and Procurement Management advice: strategic approach, contract drafting, tendering and contract management
Ability to provide quality coaching and capability development of others in good commercial contract management
Strong stakeholder management coupled with robust negotiation skills.
