Waverley Council is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer to provide strategic communications leadership and support across the organisation.

About the role
Reporting to Manager, Communications and Engagement, this role is responsible for :
Providing expert advice on all communications matters to Council teams, senior management.
Leading, supporting and mentoring the Communications Officer and other team members
Developing, reviewing, and implementing communications strategies that advance Council objectives
Overseeing creation, maintenance, and enhancement of Council’s website and social medial presence
Reviewing high-quality content for internal and external communications, including media releases, speeches, newsletters and social media posts
Managing key communications projects and campaigns, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with Council goals.
Monitoring communications effectiveness and recommend improvements
Skills & Experience
Tertiary qualifications in communication, public relations, journalism, marketing or a relevant field, or commensurate industry experience.
A minimum of five years' communications experience.
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with all levels of management, including elected officials and community members.
Demonstrated experience and ability to supervise, coach and support staff in their day activities that leads to continuous improvement of processes and practices.
Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
High attention to detail.
Contemporary industry knowledge and demonstrated experience in building content for digital channels
