Primary objective

To enable and drive a strong culture of compliance with the Petroleum Act 1+84, Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1+81 ,

Energy Pipelines Act 1+81, and Geothermal Energy Act 200+ (collectively ‘the Energy Legislation’ in the Northern Territory) .

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the regulatory framework, including monitoring and

compliance policies, programs, procedures and reporting mechanisms, through engagement with industry and regulatory

officers in the Department.

2. Develop and deliver clear and relevant advice to regulated entities on statutory requirements, assessment and approval

processes, regulatory policies, and compliance priorities.

3. Develop strategic and innovative approaches to facilitating industry compliance with the Energy Legislation, including

the delivery of a targeted compliance and monitoring program.

4. In consultation with industry, facilitate the continuous improvement of internal systems and processes to enhance

efficiency, increase compliance and promote stakeholder confidence.

5. Develop and manage projects that will showcase regulatory processes and outcomes.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated ability to develop and write strategies, policies, and procedures that have delivered practical outcomes.

2. Proven application of strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate problems and develop creative solutions.

3. Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated experience in preparing a wide range of

communication products for various target audiences.

4. A high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.

5. High level organisational and project management skills, including the ability to develop project plans, report on projects

and see projects through to completion.

6. Advanced interpersonal skills and an ability to influence a variety of stakeholders, including senior management and

external stakeholders.

7. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, whilst contributing to high performing, cross-functional

teams.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in a field relevant to the position.

2. Experience working in regulatory environments involving complex technical information e.g. engineering or scientific.

3. A working knowledge of legislation as it relates to petroleum and geothermal energy.
