prosecuting unscrupulous businesses.
The OFT forms part of DJAG's Harm, Prevention and Regulation business area. The Investigations and Enforcement Division (I&E) is a division of OFT.
I&E is responsible for monitoring Queensland businesses that are in trade or commerce to ensure a safe and fair marketplace. It achieves this goal by educating consumers, traders and organisations about their rights and responsibilities under fair trading legislation, identifying and investigating potential breaches of legislation and taking enforcement action where appropriate.
Marketplace Investigations is a unit within I&E.
As a Senior Compliance Officer in Marketplace Investigations, you will:
assess complaints and information to determine the most appropriate course of action, and prepare investigation plans;
conduct efficient and effective investigations of consumer legislation, including the conduct of complex financial investigations involving breaches of the Agents Financial Administration Act 2014 and the Australian Consumer Law;
regularly report the progress of active investigations to supervisors;
initiate and manage enforcement, prosecution and other disciplinary proceedings;
brief internal and external legal counsel, and instruct and manage witnesses;
coordinate proactive compliance operations including unannounced industry audits and educational visits; and
develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to promote compliance and encourage stakeholder support for fair trading legislation.
A ‘C' class Queensland driving license is required.
Possession of a qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework in Investigations (a Certificate IV for example), or equivalent, would be highly regarded.
Prior to appointment, as the successful applicant you are required to undergo an investigation that satisfies the Executive Director that you are of good repute - for candidates with previous public sector employment, including the Queensland Police Service, this will include obtaining disciplinary information from the relevant employers and the Crime and Corruption Commission.
