The University of Canterbury (UC) is looking for an experienced Senior Connectivity Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and enhancement of our complex network infrastructure.

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
As a senior technical expert and mentor, you'll be the key escalation point for complex networking issues, guiding and supporting your team while championing robust, scalable solutions. You'll also play a leading role in the development and execution of our Connectivity Strategy—translating strategic priorities into high-impact technical outcomes.

This will involve a broad range of responsibilities, from hands-on technical leadership to strategic planning and day-to-day operational oversight, including:

Design, implement, and optimise enterprise network architectures
Lead incident response and resolve complex network issues
Manage planning, installation, and maintenance of network systems
Mentor and provide technical leadership to the Connectivity team
Maintain comprehensive documentation and operational standards
Promote modern tools, methods, and security best practices
Ensure compliance with policies and regulations
Collaborate with vendors and stakeholders to enhance service delivery
Mōu | Who You Are

To succeed in this role, you'll be an experienced, solution-focused and forward-thinking network professional with at least 10+ years' IT experience with at least 5 in network engineering in medium to large organisations. And have:

a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Level 7+)
Qualifications in Cisco CCNA, Fortinet NSE4, CWNP, Aruba ClearPass, Juniper JNCP, or Microsoft Azure.
Deep expertise in network infrastructure across LAN, WAN, wireless, and cloud environments
Strong understanding of enterprise networking technologies (Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba, Juniper, Azure)
Demonstrated success in delivering large-scale connectivity initiatives
Experience in higher education or similarly complex organisational environments (preferred)
Proven ability to manage performance, coach team members, and foster continuous improvement
Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
