About The Team

ByteDance's AI Legal Team provides front-line legal support to the company's AI products and services. The team is growing fast and seeking highly experienced, bright, and capable AI governance and tech policy counsel to join us. The role is critical to ByteDance's AI initiative by shaping the Company's responsible AI initiatives, developing policies and procedures to comply with the global evolving AI laws, and building authentic relationships with the broader technology community. The position will work closely with and report to the Head of the AI Legal Team.

Some Key Day-to-day Responsibilities Include
• Collaborate with the Company's AI product, TnS, Legal, GR, and PR stakeholders to establish and implement responsible the global AI governance framework (policies, standards and best practices), including mitigating the associated safety, bias, fairness and transparency risks.
• Stay informed of the evolving global AI laws and regulations, including but not limited to the EU AI Act; ensure the Company's AI products and services have been developed and deployed to comply with these laws and regulations.
• Serve as the front-line legal and strategy advisor to help ByteDance build and maintain relationships with AI industry groups and civil societies.
• Drive communications and provide training across ByteDance's globally-distributed, diverse teams for a sophisticated understanding of the key compliance opportunities and challenges in light of the rapidly evolving AI legal and industry requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
• Law studies or Doctorate degree in Law.
• Qualified to practice law in the jurisdiction in which the lawyer is located.
• Proven tech in-house and private practice legal expertise in AI and ML legal and policy issues relating to technology platform companies.
• Extensive experience engaging with regulatory authorities, industry associations, or standards bodies.
• Have a track record of achieving alignment with internal cross-functional teams and external partners.
• Possess the highest standard of ethics and a positive attitude in learning and willing to pick up new knowledge and skills; comfortable navigating through ambiguous legal issues.
• A confident self-starter with strong communications, interpersonal and organizational skills, yet with creative mind, and demonstrate the ability to effectively and proactively exercise good judgment and partner with the business in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience at a similar platform or within the tech industry
