What’s the role
As a Senior Data Scientist in the Loyalty & CRM team, you will play a critical role in designing, automating, and scaling advanced analytics and machine learning solutions that drive customer engagement, retention, and lifetime value. You will work cross-functionally with data engineering, architects, product, and agency teams to deliver high-impact, scalable solutions aligned with business goals. This role demands strong technical expertise, business acumen, and the ability to communicate complex insights in a simple, compelling way.
What you’ll be doing
• Business Workflow Understanding: Understand the end-to-end business workflow and identify opportunities for analytics to add value at every stage.
• Value Creation: Drive measurable business value through innovative data science applications and new capability development.
• Scalability & GTM Strategy: Rapidly scale data science solutions and contribute to go-to-market strategies for analytics products and capabilities
• Model Development & Automation: Build, deploy, and automate machine learning models for CRM and Loyalty use cases such as churn prediction, segmentation, LTV, and personalization.
• Coding Standards & Compliance: Uphold exceptional standards in coding, documentation, and compliance with technical and governance frameworks across all initiatives. • Data Architecture & Engineering Collaboration: Work closely with data architects and engineers to access diverse data sources, maintain clarity in data architecture, and build robust data pipelines.
• Governance & Playbook Creation: Create reusable playbooks and standardized frameworks to streamline model development, deployment, and scaling across platforms and markets. Implement governance structures that enable Shell to derive high-quality solutions from external agencies while maintaining rigorous standards and consistency.
• GenAI Integration: Leverage Generative AI to solve business problems, enhance personalization, and improve operational efficiency.
• Stakeholder Navigation: Work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across marketing, product, engineering, and external agencies to steer projects toward successful outcomes. Exhibit strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex environments while consistently driving initiatives to completion.
• KPI & Roadmap Ownership: Maintain and evolve analytics roadmaps, define KPIs, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
• Communication & Storytelling: Present complex models and insights through compelling narratives, infographics, and visual storytelling tailored to business audiences.
• Value Measurement: Design and implement value measurement frameworks to quantify the impact of data science initiatives.
What you bring
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience as a Data Scientist, preferably in the marketing domain.
• Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL processes, and data architecture.
• Familiarity with object-oriented programming and general software engineering principles to build scalable and reusable analytical products.
• Experience with GenAI (at least 2POC’s), ML models & automation, MLOps, and version control tools.
• Intermediate knowledge on GenAI tools and frameworks, including foundational concepts of Large Models (LLMs) and prompt engineering.
• Strong understanding of various GenAI applications, with the ability to assess their relevance to specific business problems and select the most appropriate solution accordingly.
• Hands-on experience with Supervised, Un-Supervised and Reinforcement learning models.
• Familiarity with advanced techniques like Bayesian models, ensemble methods, and deep learning (where applicable).
• Understanding on Power BI, or similar tools for dashboarding and campaign performance tracking.
• Experience in PCA, campaign diagnostics, and KPI reporting.
• Excellent storytelling, presentation, and infographic creation skills.
• Strong negotiation and communication abilities to influence stakeholders and align on priorities.
