Senior Director, Archives Full-Time Temporary

At the Territory Records Office, our purpose is to inspire trust in government through transparent and accessible records that tell the story of Canberra. By developing professional records and information governance standards, providing practical advice, and delivering innovative projects, we maintain the framework in which government can create and keep records that account for its actions to the community. We also protect and make accessible the unique archival records that document the ACT Government’s actions and tell stories about our community.

The Senior Director, Archives oversees the development of policies and strategies that preserve the ACT Government’s archival collection and increase the availability of information, records and archives for the community and within the ACT Public Service. In this role you will support the Executive Branch Manager to set and steer the strategic direction for the Territory Records Office. You will also oversee the work of teams that:

Deliver day-to-day services that protect and provide access to hard copy government archives

deliver hard copy and digital mail services across the ACTPS

design and deliver projects that increase the digitisation of the archives collection

provide public access services, including through publications and events that promote the ACT’s archives and their value

administer significant whole of government contracts relating to the storage and distribution of, and access to, government information.

To fulfil the role, you will need to be able to work collaboratively across government to achieve shared goals. You’ll need to bring a pragmatic approach to resolving differences and issues in situations with many competing stakeholders and interests. And you’ll need to have a commitment to advocating for the value of records and archives as a key enabler of government accountability and community memory

Notes: This is a temporary position available from 03 February 2025 until 07 March 2025 with the possibility of extension up to six months. This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
