What you'll do:
We have a rare opportunity for a Senior Energy Analyst to join our Portfolio Management team in Auckland. This is an exciting, high-impact role in a complex part of our business that manages our current and future electricity portfolio, carbon obligations, and diversified fuel types - gas, oil, and LPG.
Reporting to our Portfolio Analytics Manager, your key responsibilities include:
Lead in-depth analysis of market trends and portfolio performance, evaluating the impact of hydrology, outages, fuels, regulations, policies, and financial contracts on Genesis' risk and opportunity profile.
Develop, maintain, and enhance reporting frameworks to deliver timely and accurate insights on current and forecast hedge positions, hydro, electricity, and gas demand, as well as generation and dispatch.
Manipulate and explore large, complex datasets to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities in energy markets.
Provide expert analytical guidance to trading, fuels, and management teams, supporting strategic decision-making and portfolio optimisation.
Mentor and support junior analysts, fostering a culture of analytical rigor and continuous improvement.
What you'll need:
We are seeking someone with a proven track record in energy or related markets, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and impact in analysis and commercial decision-making.
Extensive analytical experience in quantitative financial, commercial, or energy market roles.
A degree qualification in a quantitative discipline e.g., Engineering, Science, Mathematics IT combined with commercial discipline - Finance, Economics, Accounting.
Advanced Excel and SQL knowledge and experience using high performance data analysis tools such as R or Matlab.
Strong commercial acumen with a business-oriented mindset.
Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret complex problems, develop insights, and recommend actionable solutions.
Collaborative, proactive, and engaging style, capable of influencing a wide range of stakeholders across the business.
Experience mentoring or leading junior team members is highly desirable.
