What you'd be doing in this role
The role will help us build and improve our Gen AI platform and products such as “Ask Canva” our user-facing chatbot that provides detailed user support using cutting-edge LLM techniques along with deep integration of our systems using tool calling to truly delight our users by instantly answering a complex question about their Canva account and by automating common support requests.
You will be working closely alongside backend engineers and MLEs to build the best AI support in the world for our customers. We embody pragmatic engineering and enjoy a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. This will give you a flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
Contributing to a scalable, interface-agnostic GenAI platform powering Canva’s user support.
Building and integrating frontend components for “Ask Canva” — our intelligent support chatbot.
Working closely with backend and ML engineers to deliver AI-driven solutions that delight users.
Iteratively improving frontend experiences to ensure fast, helpful, human-like assistance.
Presenting new ideas and tech opportunities to elevate Canva's AI help experiences.
You're probably a match if you
Bring 5+ years of frontend engineering experience, with a proven ability to deliver complex products autonomously and at scale.
Have deep expertise in modern web technologies (e.g., React, TypeScript, GraphQL) and thrive on making pragmatic architectural decisions.
Are skilled at balancing speed and quality — knowing when to experiment, when to refactor, and when to ship.
Have worked in cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with MLEs, designers, and backend engineers to build seamless end-to-end experiences.
Are excited about AI and LLMs, and you’re confident building production-grade systems that integrate with them.
Enjoy mentoring others and raising the bar — your teammates value your code reviews and thought leadership.
Even if you’re new to AI, if you're a seasoned engineer with strong systems thinking and a growth mindset, we’d still love to hear from you.
