Founded in 2020 by Dr Chiara Board (PhD, Imperial College) after her own experience with recurrent urinary tract infections, the company was created to drive innovation in women’s health and break down barriers to care. About the Role: We are seeking 1-2 reliable experienced scientists with a background in microbiology and molecular biology to take on the responsibility to manage, scale and further optimise the production of our live bacterial technology. We are looking for team members who are very well organised, and are great in multi-tasking, as the role requires you to manage the lab, production and drive the R&D forward at the same time. This role will be initially on a fixed term basis but could potentially lead to a permanent role depending on the growth of the company. This is a lab-based role with essential, time-sensitive tasks that require consistency and attention to detail.
You will work closely with our current senior scientist to manage, optimise and scale production and our lab in White City. This role carries significant senior responsibilities, including overseeing lab operations, production processes, and ensuring the availability of all necessary materials, equipment, as well as contributing to meetings, presentations and directly reporting to, and working together with, the management team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Production Management: Use existing protocols to produce our live bacterial Bdellovibrio powder for the P.Happi® manufacturing process. Liaise with our P.Happi manufacturers for production and manage stock to meet targets and timelines.
• Lab Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the lab, ensuring a smooth workflow and adherence to protocols.
• Inventory Management: Ensure all necessary materials, buffers, glassware, and equipment are stocked and ready for use, well maintained and running.
• Quality Control: Maintain high standards of quality and safety within the lab, implementing best practices and compliance with regulatory requirements. Monitor quality and activity of our stock.
• Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to other team members and junior staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient lab environment.
• Reporting: Document and report on lab activities and production outcomes to senior management. Participate in meetings, company activities, investor calls, and engagements with corporate partners. Feedback on science communication. Represent the company at conferences and other industry events.
• Process Optimisation: Pro-actively identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity of our processes.
Requirements:
• Lab-based PhD project in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of relevant independent work experience in the lab (e.g. research assistant, technical assistant)
• Proven track record in managing lab operations and small teams, consistently delivering results on time with a reliable, flexible, and adaptable approach.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time.
• Strong ability to work independently with a proactive, results-driven attitude. Adaptable to learn new processes. Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative, even when working with a small team or limited support.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Positive, practical, solution-oriented working attitude.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with team members and report to management.
