A temporary full-time vacancy of Senior Lawyer (PO5) is available within Legal Services, Department of Education, commencing 6 May 2025.
This is a temporary vacancy for 12 months, unless otherwise determined.

About The Role
The Information Release team in Legal Services manages the Department's legislative obligations regarding the provision of department documents under State or Commonwealth legislation and is looking for an experienced Senior Lawyer to join the team who has good written and oral communication skills, attention to detail and is a team player.
Your role as a Senior Lawyer will primarily focus on:
Processing requests and compliance with the Right to Information Act 200+ (Qld) (RTI Act), Information Privacy Act 200+ (Qld) (IP Act) and Freedom of Information Act 1+82 (Cth)(FOI Act) and court ordered access to documents such as subpoenas, summonses, Notices of Non-Party Disclosure, s134A Evidence Act 1+77 (Qld) applications, Motor Accident Insurance Act 1++4 (Qld) applications, Location/Recovery Orders, police requests and other requests for access to departmental information.
Perform functions as the Department's delegated decision maker for complex applications made under the RTI Act, Chapter 3 of the IP Act and FOI Act.
Provide high level legal advice to schools, departmental business units and senior management on public law matters particularly those concerning privacy compliance, statutory decision making and management of department's information.
Develop and deliver professional development training about compliance with RTI, IP, FOI Acts, privacy and legal issues around information management across the Department.
Develop and manage systems, policies, procedures and practices to ensure the Department effectively meets its obligations under the relevant legislation and court ordered processes for release of Departmental information.
Assist in the delivery of high quality legal advisory services to a diverse range of departmental clients.
The Senior Lawyer reports to the Manager, Information Release, Legal Services.
