Solicitor / Chartered Legal Executive - Property Recoveries

Department: CSG - Property (Insurance / Damage / Recoveries / Subsidence)

Description

We are delighted to announce that we are looking for a 0-4 year PQE Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join our property recoveries team on a permanent contract.

The role is Claimant based and you will be responsible for working on property damage insurance recoveries covering a range of perils including fire, flood, impact and escape of water.

You will have an excellent opportunity to develop your legal skills, knowledge and career within a supportive team and an ambitious firm. DAC Beachcroft's Claims Solutions Group Property team provides solutions to the Insurance Property Recovery Sectors.

What you will do?

• The role is to work within one of our Property Recoveries teams. This is predominantly a claimant based role.

• Depending on workloads in the team the candidate will be asked to undertake:

• General recoveries tasks consisting of predominantly investigatory work on all fast, intermediate and multi-track files.

• * Investigating liability on a variety of general recoveries claims, ranging from escapes of water, flooding, impact and fire damage etc.

• * Handling their own case load, including negotiating quantum and settlement of damages with third parties.

• * Obtaining witness statements; contacting relevant parties to obtain salient documents; drafting letters of claim, issuing proceedings, disclosure, instructing Counsel/experts, progressing a file through to Trial.

• * Supporting marketing and business development activities within the team.

• * Maintaining an awareness of the firm's core strategies and aims. Handling confidential information in line with the firms data security protocols.

• * Exercise full compliance with client and internal protocols for billing and credit control and demonstrate a high level of financial management in respect of own files.

• * Achieve key measures set each financial year including a minimum budgeted annual target of 1440 chargeable hours per year.

You will also have the opportunity to become involved in marketing and client facing activities in order to build the business and their career.

Who you are

• Be a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive, or have substantial pre-qualification experience

• Be interested in and willing to learn insurance property damage law, including the basic principles of contract law and tort;

• Good communication skills to liaise with clients, intermediaries and colleagues.

• Ability to critically look at factual evidence, identify key legal arguments and apply the same.

• Commitment and enthusiasm with a professional attitude.

• Commercial awareness, resilience and confidence.

• Demonstrates alignment with the Firm’s Cultural Principles (Clear, Creative, Determined and Supportive).

Role Purpose

This is a strategic and hands-on legal role designed to support SmartSurvey’s growth across commercial operations, regulatory compliance, and future acquisitions. As our Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll be the go-to expert on contracts and contract management, data protection, and legal risk. You’ll also have influence in shaping our broader legal strategy, governance standards, and risk frameworks including input into board-level discussions.

You’ll collaborate closely with Sales, Product, Support, Development, and the Executive team to ensure legal clarity, reduce friction in contracting, and embed proactive risk management as we scale.

This is a high-trust role with significant impact. For the right person, there is also a clear growth path into a Head of Legal position as the business expands.

What Great Looks Like

Within 3-6 months, you will:

• Own contract lifecycle management and legal operations across SmartSurvey

• Confidently review, draft and negotiate MSAs, DPAs, variations, and supplier terms

• Embed GDPR and DPA best practices into commercial and operational workflows

• Support due diligence and contract review in any acquisition processes

• Contribute to legal strategy, governance best practice and risk management at leadership level

• Be known across the business as a responsive, clear and strategic partner

Role Responsibilities

• Lead legal review and negotiation of commercial contracts (customers, suppliers, partners)

• Provide practical guidance on UK/EU and US data protection and compliance (DPA, GDPR)

• Support acquisitions, due diligence and post-deal contract transitions

• Develop and maintain legal templates, playbooks, and internal knowledge base

• Advise teams on IP, licensing, public procurement and regulatory obligations

• Identify legal risks early and communicate them with clarity and solutions

• Help define and evolve company-wide legal governance, risk tolerance, and compliance frameworks

• Represent Legal perspectives in senior meetings and provide board-level input where required

Skills & Experience Must-Haves

• Qualified solicitor in England with 5+ years PQE

• Proven in-house or SaaS/technology experience in a commercial legal role

• Deep knowledge of contract law and data protection regulations (DPA, GDPR)

• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills

• Confident working independently and prioritising across multiple teams

• Able to translate legal complexity into actionable business guidance

• Experience supporting strategic partnerships, such as reviewing and negotiating partnership agreements, reseller terms, or joint IP arrangements

Experience we’d love to see

• M&A due diligence and contract novation experience

• Knowledge of legal frameworks in the EU and US, particularly in relation to acquisitions, data protection, or commercial contracts

• Familiarity with public sector procurement frameworks or regulated industries

• Strong cross-functional collaboration in a scaling business
