We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel with a strong background in regulatory or litigation experience to join our dynamic legal team.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, timely, and cost-effective legal services that support HESTA's commercial arrangements and operations.

Your expertise will ensure that our business units operate in compliance with regulatory requirements through the provision of sound legal guidance.

Your day will see you:

Maintaining an in-depth and current understanding of key legislation and standards, including the Superannuation Industry Supervision (SIS) Act, APRA Prudential Standards, and the Corporations Act.
Providing strategic and practical legal advice to HESTA, focusing on legal disputes, litigation, and regulatory notices.
Identifying and managing legal risks arising from legal developments, regulatory focus areas, changes in law, and judicial decisions.
Developing, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents to meet HESTA's legal and regulatory risk management requirements.
Managing relationships with external legal advisers to ensure efficient and effective legal service provision.
Coordinating legal guidance and document review for litigation and regulatory proceedings.
Ensuring a consistent approach to managing legal risks associated with regulatory notices and litigation.
Collaborating with Risk, Compliance, and Regulatory Change teams to provide guidance on changes to applicable laws and standards.
About You
Extensive experience in regulatory or litigation matters, including responding to regulator notices and document discovery.

Up-to-date knowledge of superannuation laws, including the SIS Act, Corporations Act, ASIC regulations, and trust law.

Strong corporate governance knowledge and advanced contract negotiation skills.

Proven ability to provide strategic legal advice and build strong client relationships.

Leadership experience in managing a legal team in a private practice or in-house environment.
