In September 2024, Betashares acquired Bendigo Superannuation Pty Ltd, the superannuation business of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank.

We are now seeking an energetic and self-motivated senior lawyer with strong superannuation expertise to join our team. Reporting to the General Counsel & Group Head of Compliance, this broad role will help shape our superannuation legal function and provide high-quality legal advice to support a growing and dynamic superannuation business.

The ideal candidate will be available to start as soon as possible on a 12-month parental leave contract, ensuring seamless continuity of legal support for our expanding superannuation operations. There will also be opportunities to contribute to broader group initiatives aligned with your skills and interests.

Key Responsibilities

Providing legal advice to the Superannuation Trustee Board and Board Committees

Providing legal advice to the superannuation business

Providing legal support in relation to product development including superannuation administration transitions

Preparation of offer documents

Advising on new products and initiatives

Managing legal workstreams relating to inorganic growth initiatives (e.g. SFT transactions) including assisting on legal due diligence, transaction documents and managing external legal advisers

Developing strong relationships with members of the superannuation business to ensure an appropriate level of influence and collaboration

Liaison with key regulators such as the APRA and ASIC

Assisting with the review and development of policies and procedures affecting the superannuation business

Providing interpretative guidance on applicable superannuation regulations, legislation and reform proposals and keeping the superannuation business updated on industry developments

Negotiating agreements with a range of service providers and counterparties

Reviewing marketing and other member facing documents

Managing matters briefed to external legal advisers.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

10+ years’ experience in a legal role focused on superannuation, with a minimum 5 years at a senior level.

Strong superannuation experience and knowledge of the associated legislation and compliance requirements.

Demonstrable experience providing support to senior management and/or Board in financial services organisations.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present ideas, perspectives and issues to senior management.

Must be commercially astute, possess strong analytical skills in respect of complex legal and commercial issues and capable of identifying and analysing the associated commercial and risk implications.

Strong technical knowledge, writing skills and attention to detail.

Excellent organisational skills with ability to multi task.

Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively and as a member of a team.

Must hold a current practising certificate as a legal practitioner.
