Purpose of the role:

The Senior Legal Counsel role plays a critical part in ensuring AMP Bank operates within its defined risk appetite and regulatory obligations. By combining legal expertise with commercial insight, the role supports informed decision-making that enables the Bank to operate safely while delivering value to customers.

As part of AMP’s Legal team, this role contributes to a collaborative, outcomes-driven environment by being both embedded in the business and independently minded.

Success is achieved through proactive integration with AMP Bank teams, ensuring legal advice is practical, executable and aligned with the strategic direction of the digital bank. At the same time, the role maintains constructive independence leveraging excellent relationships to provide thoughtful challenge and ensuring legal considerations are embedded in business decisions.

How will you make an impact

Providing advice on legal advice and support to senior management and business areas relevant to ADIs, banking and bank products
Helping align desired business outcomes with regulatory obligations in a complex and evolving environment
Supporting changes in banking products and maintaining existing products
Working across teams to ensure legal considerations are integrated into business decisions, including the design and delivery of new products
Helping design digital onboarding journeys.
Drafting customer communications, TMDs and terms and conditions
Monitors and stays up to date with applicable laws and obligations.
What you will bring to the role

Previous experience working in a heavily regulated industry, ideally in banking services
Ideally at least 8 years post qualified experience gained in private practice and/or in house
In depth understanding of the obligations applicable to ADIs and related risks

The role requires someone who consistently applies sound judgment in day-to-day decision-making, driving customer-focused solutions while maintaining a clear understanding of business priorities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate an exceptional ability to analyse complex problems and identify practical solutions that enhance ways of working. Exceptional communication skills across written, verbal, virtual and face-to-face channels are essential, along with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders. A curious and inquisitive mindset, combined with agility and adaptability, will be key to thriving in this role.
