About the role

As the Senior Management Accountant, you will lead the department’s approach to capital budget management, forecasting, and reporting. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring alignment with best practice, governance frameworks, and external requirements.

You will work closely with divisions and regional offices to drive the implementation and operationalisation of capital forecasting and reporting processes. Acting as a central point of oversight, you will review and assess capital forecasts, identify risks and issues, and collaborate with key stakeholders to deliver solutions.
This role operates in a fast-paced and evolving environment, requiring you to manage competing priorities, respond to complex queries, and deliver high-quality financial insights under pressure.

The role is part of a newly created centralised Capital Services function and will help lead the capability uplift and transformation of capital reporting processes across the department, ensuring leaders have clear information they can act on.

About you

You are a proactive and experienced finance professional with strong expertise in management accounting, particularly within capital budgeting and forecasting.

You will have:

Proven experience in financial forecasting, reporting, and analysis
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams
A keen eye for detail and the ability to identify risks, issues, and opportunities
Experience working in complex or large organisations, ideally within government or regulated environments
The ability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-changing environment while maintaining accuracy and quality
A continuous improvement mindset, with experience driving process enhancements and adapting to system or policy reforms

Key knowledge and experience

Demonstrated experience working in management accounting roles
Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

Degree in accounting or finance discipline and eligibility for membership of a recognised professional association or demonstrated relevant and successful workplace experience.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
