Build, lead, and sustain a high-performing API capability with a strong focus on engagement, accountability, and delivery outcomes.
Establish clear role expectations, performance standards, and development pathways aligned to enterprise capability frameworks.
Actively manage performance, including addressing underperformance and complex people matters with confidence, fairness, and professionalism.
Develop talent through coaching, feedback, succession planning, and targeted capability uplift across internal teams and partners.
Foster a psychologically safe, inclusive environment where people are empowered to challenge, learn, and continuously improve.
API Strategy, Vision & Roadmap
Define and own the enterprise API vision and strategy, aligned to the bank’s technology strategy and enterprise architecture blueprint.
Develop and maintain a clear API roadmap that balances strategic transformation, BAU sustainability, and delivery demand.
Evangelise an API-first approach across the organisation, influencing how systems, data, and integrations are designed and delivered.
Ensure the API strategy enables secure, scalable access to data for digital, workflow, partner, and AI use cases.
Continuously assess industry trends and emerging technologies to evolve the API capability.
Platform Ownership & Architecture Alignment
Own the API platform as an enterprise capability, ensuring consistency, reuse, and alignment to architectural standards.
Partner closely with Enterprise and Solution Architects to deliver against the enterprise integration blueprint.
Establish clear API standards, patterns, and guardrails that enable team autonomy while maintaining safety and consistency.
Ensure APIs support both internal and external consumers, including partners and third-party ecosystems.
Delivery, Planning & Execution
Accountable for planning and delivery across BAU and project-based API initiatives.
Balance demand, capacity, and priority across multiple delivery streams.
Ensure delivery is predictable, transparent, and aligned to agreed outcomes.
Oversee delivery performance, dependency management, and issue resolution.
Ensure operational readiness, performance, and supportability are embedded into delivery from the outset.
Vendor, Partner & Stakeholder Management
Manage delivery partners and vendors, ensuring value for money, capability uplift, and alignment to enterprise direction.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across technology, risk, operations, and the business.
Act as a trusted advisor on API strategy, delivery trade-offs, and capability maturity.
Address customer, partner, and operational concerns related to API performance, reliability, or availability.
Operations, Performance & Risk
Accountable for the ongoing performance, reliability, and security of the API ecosystem.
Ensure APIs meet operational, performance, and availability expectations.
Embed strong risk, security, and compliance practices into API delivery and operations.
Partner with Cyber Security to ensure APIs meet security standards and support secure data access.
Monitor and report on API performance, usage, incidents, and improvement opportunities.

10+ years’ experience in people leadership, including building, leading, and sustaining technology teams in complex enterprise environments.
Significant experience leading enterprise technology platforms or integration capabilities.
Strong background in APIs, integration platforms, or distributed systems.
Experience working with core banking or highly regulated systems.
Proven people leadership experience, including team development and performance management.
Experience managing vendors and delivery partners.
Demonstrated success driving large-scale technology or operating model transformation.
Strong planning, delivery, and execution discipline in complex environments.
Experience partnering with architecture, digital, data, and security teams.
