Risk Management is an independent function within CommBank which is accountable for providing approval and acceptance of decisions to ensure the Group remains within its risk appetite.
The Technology and Operations (Tech & Ops) Risk team is responsible for providing specialist Operational Risk and Compliance (OR&C) advice, assurance and acceptance/approval of decisions made across the Technology, COO and Supplier Support Units.
Do work that matters:
As a Senior Manager, Artificial Intelligence Technology Risk you will be a member of a team of technology risk professionals that provides Operational Risk & Compliance Support to the Technology and Security divisions. The support you provide will result in improvements to risk management and controls managed by Technology.
The role requires building strong relationships and teamwork to improve the way that risk and compliance management practices are executed – whether to meet Group requirements or to support change initiatives that contribute towards Technology’s strategic priorities.
Key responsibilities for this role includes:
Technical
Provide SME risk management advice to crews aligned in Chief Technology Office and Chief Data and Analytics office, in particular those teams who are building the core foundations to build and manage AI technology for the CBA
Working as part of a team of professional SMEs to provide independent, pragmatic and value adding Operational Risk advice and assurance for technology and cyber risks across the Group.
Monitoring and reporting of three lines of accountability (3LoA) activities to the Executive Manager, including BAU management of the Risk Management Approach, the Operational Risk Management Framework and Compliance Management Framework in support of CPS 220.
Contributing to the oversight and monitoring of key data, technology and cyber risks, controls, issues, incidents, and risk-in-change.
Supporting the appropriate identification, escalation and reporting of all related technology and cyber risk and compliance matters to the relevant stakeholders, including the relevant NFRCs, your EM/GM and to the Technology and Operations CRO.
Leadership
Work as part of a cross-skilled team that can support a range of inter-connected risk domains; speaking up and contributing to appropriate Line 2 oversight and challenge.
Provide ideas for Line 2 risk management and assurance activities, data analytics and stakeholder reporting; contribute to a culture of learning and collaboration.
Role model behaviours that are consistent with CBA values expectations and leadership principles; provide a safe workplace for all team members, customers and visitors.
Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders; become a trusted advisor using commercial acumen, practical recommendations; and assist the business to understand where prioritised focus on key risks and compliance matters is required.
We’re interested in hearing from people who have:
Strong working and technical knowledge of Gen AI and Agentic systems, including modern architectures (e.g. RAG, agentic workflows, LLM-based applications) and familiarity with AI development ecosystems and tooling (e.g. ML Frameworks, LLM orchestration tools, APIs).
Experience in Technology, Cyber or AI Risk Management, including application of risk frameworks and 3 Lines of Accountability (3LoA) models within complex environments (ideally financial services).
Proven ability to assess end-to-end AI/ML lifecycles, including evaluating associated risks and controls.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, evidence gathering and data analysis, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear risk insights for senior stakeholders.
Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Cyber Security or related disciplines.
Industry certifications in Cyber, Cloud or AI/ML are highly regarded (e.g. CISA, CRISC, CISSP, AWS/Azure/GCP certifications, or equivalent).
Strong stakeholder and influencing skills, with the ability to proactively engage Line 1 teams (e.g. Engineers, Data Scientists) and provide pragmatic, commercially balanced risk advice.
A curious and humble mindset, with an understanding of external AI trends and a commitment to continuous learning to build and uplift risk management practices.
