Contributes to the overall success of the Enterprise Risk team by contributing to the development, implementation and maintenance of the Bank’s risk appetite and control processes and frameworks, and in alignment with regulatory requirements, organizational strategy, and risk management objectives. This role is expected to have a high degree of analytical and technical knowledge and experience, combined with a strong understanding of retail and small business credit risk policies/processes/lifecycle.

This role belongs, supports and works closely with all the members of the Global Governance team, and interacts frequently with GRM team members, business lines across the Bank’s footprint, technical teams, data analytics teams, systems, operations, Audit, Bank regulators, and any other stakeholders as deemed necessary.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Support global risk appetite activities, including limit monitoring, analysis, setting and, updating of the annual risk limits and breaches
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Bank’s risk appetite framework, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and regulatory standards
Understand the applicable regulatory requirements to ensure controls are adequately updated to identify control gaps and non-compliance with regulatory requirements, best practices, and internal policies and procedures
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture are to be considered in day-to-day decisions
Build and manage relationships with stakeholders across the business and peers
Champion a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment
Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and assess risks across all business units and functions
Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and Early Warning Thresholds (EWT) and ensure timely reporting of deviations from established thresholds and limits, based on defined escalation procedures
Support risk governance forums by preparing materials and insights for decision-making
Provide advice and guidance to teams on adhering to the risk appetite framework and implementing controls
Foster awareness and accountability for risk management across all levels of the Bank’s pertaining to risk controls
Benchmark practices against industry standards and incorporate lessons learned into the risk management processes
Update process documentation for all risk appetite activities, create process documentation as needed

Minimum of 7 years of compliance, controls, operational risk, risk technology, audit or similar areas
Strong attention to detail
Ability to communicate well across all levels of an organization
Solid ability to quickly review, assimilate, prioritize, and escalate issues to appropriate stakeholders
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently
Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Strong time management skills, ability to multi-task, while being results oriented and team focused
Strong sense of curiosity and is driven to seek a comprehensive understanding of a project and all related processes and policies
Ability to think outside the box, and in a strategic manner that connects processes, policies, systems, and people
Experience effectively working in a global matrix team, across a range of functions, seniority and geography
