Job Description
Location: Remote (India-based) Working Hours: US Business Hours (Night Shift in IST) Department: Supply Chain / Operations Reports To: Director / VP of Supply Chain
About the Role
We are seeking a highly analytical, self-starting Senior Manager of Logistics to lead our end-to-end transportation network, with a primary focus on international imports from Asia to the United States, as well as domestic US truck freight. This is a high-impact, fully remote position based in India, requiring a strategic thinker who can operate autonomously in a fast-paced, dynamic setting while aligning with US business hours.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing ocean freight, US domestic trucking, and US customs compliance. You will serve as the primary point of contact for freight forwarders, customs brokers, and 3PL partners, ensuring the seamless, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods across borders. As a technology-forward organization, we are looking for a leader who is proficient in leveraging AI tools and advanced analytics to optimize supply chain performance, forecast disruptions, and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
International Transportation & Ocean Freight
- Lead the end-to-end international inbound logistics network, with a primary focus on the Asia-to-USA trade lane (China, Vietnam, India, South Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia).
- Negotiate and manage contracts with ocean carriers, NVOCCs, and international freight forwarders to secure competitive rates and reliable capacity.
- Oversee booking, documentation, and execution of FCL and LCL ocean shipments, ensuring on-time departure and arrival.
- Monitor global trade conditions — including port congestion, vessel delays, and geopolitical developments — and proactively develop contingency plans.
- Manage relationships with freight forwarders and ensure performance against agreed SLAs and KPIs.
- Coordinate with origin agents and overseas partners to ensure proper cargo handling, documentation accuracy, and timely departure.
US Domestic Trucking & Drayage
- Manage US domestic freight operations including FTL, LTL, intermodal, and port drayage to ensure timely delivery from US ports and rail ramps to distribution centers and final destinations.
- Negotiate trucking contracts and rate structures with US domestic carriers and brokers.
- Optimize routing and carrier mix to reduce costs while maintaining service performance.
- Oversee carrier scorecards and conduct regular business reviews to drive accountability.
US Customs Compliance & Broker Management
- Serve as the primary liaison with licensed US customs brokers for all US import entries, ensuring timely and accurate customs clearance.
- Maintain deep knowledge of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, HTS classifications, tariff schedules, and trade compliance requirements.
- Ensure accuracy of all import documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, ISF filings, and certificates of origin.
- Manage duty drawback opportunities, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) utilization, and bonded warehouse operations where applicable.
- Proactively monitor changes in US trade policy, tariffs (Section 301, AD/CVD), and import regulations, and communicate impacts to leadership.
- Coordinate with government agencies (CBP, FDA, USDA, etc.) as needed to resolve customs holds, exams, and compliance issues.
AI Tools, Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Champion the use of AI tools and emerging supply chain technologies to enhance freight visibility, automate routine tasks, predict transit disruptions, and optimize routing decisions.
- Leverage data analytics platforms and dashboards to monitor freight spend, landed costs, carrier performance, and inventory flow.
- Identify and implement process improvements using a data-driven approach; build reporting frameworks that provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Act as a self-starter — independently identify operational bottlenecks and drive scalable, tech-enabled solutions without waiting for direction.
- Evaluate and implement logistics management software (TMS, ERP integrations) to improve operational efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with US-based Procurement, Operations, Finance, and Inventory Planning teams to align logistics strategy with business objectives.
- Provide regular updates and executive-level reporting on freight performance, cost trends, and supply chain risks.
- Lead, mentor, and develop logistics team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
