Job Description

Worker Type:
Permanent
Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."
We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.
The BNZ Procurement tīma (team) is a critical tīma at BNZ - we partner with our internal ngā kiritaki (customers) by leading market engagements and negotiations with suppliers and to advise and support them on how to optimise their supplier contracts and relationships so that BNZ can serve its own ngā kiritaki brilliantly.

We have an exciting opportunity for a senior procurement professional to join our tīma as a Senior Manager Procurement, to lead a team of procurement professionals and by partnering with the business to get the best from supplier relationships without comprising on cost and value. We play a key role when it comes to realising value, helping the bank to manage commercial risk, negotiating robust commercial outcomes, while helping protect the bank’s reputation.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We sat down with our Head of Procurement, and they let us know the following about the tūranga (role).

What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this tūranga will complete?
Senior support, coaching and people management of Procurement Partners and Procurement Associates who are aligned to the same internal kiritaki (customer).
Build and maintain meaningful relationships with business stakeholders and create sustainable commercial value, effectively managing risks and make it easier to work with great suppliers.
Regular engagement and planning with aligned internal technology ngā kiritaki so that we can proactively support their strategy from a procurement perspective.
Procurement activities, including leading strategic negotiations and complex market activities.
As a member of the extended leadership tīma, proactively contribute to our broader tīma, execution of our priority initiatives and improvement of procurement practices, policies and standards.

What is the tīma culture and environment like?
We have an open, collaborative tīma culture with a diverse mix of individuals, skills and experience.
We mahi within a compliance environment that can be challenging for anyone new to financial services, but we are supportive and this creates a great opportunity for those wanting to grow in their career.

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?
This is a great opportunity to step into a senior tūranga and take responsibility for supporting your aligned internal technology ngā kiritaki, including ensuring you and the tīma have a proactive tūranga in procurement activities.
You will be tasked with becoming a senior strategic partner for your ngā kiritaki and have an opportunity to make a real difference to how we show up within BNZ

What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?
While the opportunities are an exciting challenge that will help you grow, if you are new to banking, our complex risk and compliance environment has its challenges that you will need to upskill on and navigate so that you can provide valuable advice to internal ngā kiritaki and your team in order to help keep the bank safe.

What will success look like for the candidate in this tūranga?
You will be viewed as a key strategic partner by your internal ngā kiritaki and be consistently providing value to ngā kiritaki through delivery of complex procurement initiatives and commercial advice. You'll also have a clear pipeline of mahi visible and regularly delivered by yourself and aligned tīma members (proactive planning and execution).

What is your favourite thing about working for BNZ?
Our people. Our tīma is in a wonderful position where we mahi with internal ngā kiritaki across the entire bank to support them to achieve their outcomes. This provides our colleagues with a growth opportunity of having exposure to multiple areas of a large corporate, rather than only a few procurement categories.
BNZ also has an exciting strategic ambition for kiritaki and colleagues that we are closely aligned to through the procurement mahi we deliver. One of the two roles will be solely focused on technology procurement and we are at the forefront of technology procurement which is exciting for anyone who wants greater exposure in this area.

What attributes will the person display in order to be successful in this tūranga?
You will need to be a self-starter that can mahi under pressure, have a continuous improvement mindset and have excellent relationship and communication skills across a range of seniority.
