The Role: Senior Naval Architect
Join our Above Water Systems team as a Senior Naval Architect based at Garden Island. In this leadership role, you’ll guide a team of Naval Architects and Technical Writers embedded in the RMP-E program, provide specialist technical advice, and oversee the development and approval of maintenance work instructions and engineering investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise Naval Architects and Technical Writers across the RMP-E program
Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure quality outcomes are delivered on time
Review and approve preventative/corrective maintenance work instructions
Provide technical advice on ship configuration, repairs, and maintenance activities
Assess and mark up design drawings when ship conditions differ from baseline specs
Support ECP incorporations and ensure compliance during installations
Your Skills and Experience:
Degree-qualified in Naval Architecture with 5+ years on Defence or maritime projects
Eligible for Chartered Membership (IEAust or RINA)
Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities
Knowledge of ship structures/platform systems and relevant naval/class society rules
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable: Work instruction development, Hull Inspector/Surveyor certification, team leadership
