Your key responsibilities
Supervision and training of the team's paralegals including:
- co-ordination, delegation and scheduling of work to meet deadlines and client service needs
- ensure services are completed in a timely and professional manner
- ensure client service standards are continuously met, undertaking individual and team performance management and development activities to achieve these standards
- receive client feedback and address and implement service improvement activities
- continuously look at opportunities or effective methods to achieve consistently high paralegal assistance standards within the team
- provide advice and training on the general operations of the team processes and procedures relating to paralegal work
- audit the quality of work produced
- utilise effective communication skills to communicate and address any problems that may arise to resolve issues
- co-ordinate and assist with the training and induction of new paralegal staff.
Developing and implementing systems and processes to enable the efficient service delivery of paralegal work.
The services provided by the paralegal team may include, but are not limited to:
- filing and serving legal documents on solicitors, barristers, doctors, businesses and other persons
- redaction of documents as instructed by lawyers
- conducting searches for information in various Court Registries, Tribunals, hospitals, businesses, companies etc
- compiling and preparing documents including briefs to experts, mediators or briefs to Counsel, indexes to brief and client files
- organisation and management of independent medical examinations
- trial preparation and assistance at trial
- legal research
- drafting routine correspondence
- drafting routine court documentation
- assisting/supervising in the discovery process
- arranging meetings, appointments, conferences and interviews as required
- maintaining bring-up systems and any other systems that may assist legal staff in their day-to-day operations
- liaising as required with clients, Counsel, legal practitioners, expert witnesses and staff
Accurately and responsibly recording client time and achieving billing targets within work constraints.
Comply at all times with the office standards, including:
- the client service charter.
- the requirement to meet target of four billable hours on average per day.
- quality and timeliness measures.
Utilise change management tools to ensure the effective implementation of new procedures or practices within the team, providing training as required.
Undertake other duties as required relating to the requirements of the legal teams and needs of the Insurance Risk Branch.
Where required, work across various teams and branches in Crown Law.
