Job Description
As a Senior Power and Thermal Software Engineer, you will be part of a team chartered to build Customer Fleet Health software capabilities for server customers to enable on-time high-quality launches of Intel server programs and in-Fleet product experience. In this position, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining power diagnostic (screening and stress) as well as thermal analysis tools. You will be working in a close collaboration with hardware engineering, silicon design engineering, and directly with customers throughout the development cycle of server programs, from initial power on of customer platforms, through the life of the product in the fleet. Diagnosing exceptionally challenging problems at data center scale and collaborating both up and downstream within Intel and externally with our customers is key. Influence customer debugging and validation and program strategies.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Creating plans and tests for generating power loads of a complex server processor and subsystems using written specs, RTL code, and other tests as a guide.
• Developing, measuring, analyzing, and debugging workloads to call out any power and/or performance gaps and close with internal engineering teams/architects.
• Creating arbitrary x86 instructions, and load/store flows in a tight loop, to maximize performance and target stress to Core/Uncore domains, as well as other subsystems.
• Extending the system level power delivery workload capability including power up and down analysis.
Helping to define, specify and drive initiatives and features required from the systems' architecture to enable diagnostics and debugging.
Qualifications
This position requires software architecture development and methodology skills commensurate with the ability to architect and design Software tools whose breadth spans from low-level hardware interfacing to GUI development.
Proven track record of developing tools or using debug solutions for complex high-performance multi-core CPU or equivalent products. Solid leadership capability and customer orientation are critical, as well as possessing initiative and a solid commitment to a task are a must.
Solid communication and collaboration skills, willingness to work with others, and the ability to thrive in ambiguous and highly complex decision environments.
Strong computer architecture and memory technology knowledge, including understanding Intel x86/x64 family architecture.
Experience in using Intel Running Average Power Limit (RAPL) for power measurements.
Knowledge of software engineering practices, including the use of design patterns, object-oriented development, development source control, service-oriented architecture, and overall software design methodology, is desired.
Must be able to work closely with other leads and managers on defining and mentoring effective technical processes and practices, driving the maturity of the team while supporting the required fluidity necessary to improve the customers' experience with our tools.
10+ years' experience working in the technology industry and at least a bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent. Masters' degree is desirable.
Additional qualifications include,
• Excellent programming and debugging skills in C and/or C++ including object-oriented design
• x86 assembly coding and debugging experience
• Xeon architectural background (knowledge of Uncore and platform)
• Knowledgeable on system software components, such as Linux and Windows internals, drivers, and runtime
• Core and Uncore uArch background, and experience with maximizing throughput
