YOUR NEW ROLE, WHAT’S INVOLVED?
• As a specialist/expert within our UK Earth & Environment business you will take up a senior position in our Geosciences team (comprising ~12 staff nationally, a further 15+ internationally) working on a wide range of projects spanning the Energy, Nuclear, Infrastructure and Mining sectors.
• Responsible for delivering software solutions for geoscience modelling tools such as FracMan (commercially developed by WSP).
• Collaborating with global geoscience practitioners to identify opportunities to enhance cutting edge applications and innovate new ones.
• Designing and implementing software solutions for use on desktop, cloud and web-based systems (e.g., for data management, simulation physical systems and visualisation) within the geoscience domain.
• Designing efficient high-quality code for scalable scientific applications. Working with other developers and consultants to deliver tested and documented code.
• Assisting with software & geoscience training and promotional activities to external and internal clients.
• Learning and understanding scientific theories, concepts and language to ensure alignment of software environment & output with geoscience practices within the Energy, Nuclear, Infrastructure and Mining sectors.

YOUR TEAM
• You will be joining a multidisciplinary team of experts in the UK, with a strong focus of the delivery of technological driven consulting and software. Our projects range across the energy industry (spanning transitional such as geothermal and CO2, and oil & gas), the nuclear waste sector (spanning geosphere characterisation, safety and engineering), through to infrastructure (including tunnels, slopes and building geotechnics), and the mining industry (from slope and bench stability, underground mining, through to lithium extraction and leaching).
• Our business and clients span all corners of the globe, covering major international companies, governmental organisations, through to academia.
• This role reports to the senior leaders of the WSP Geoscience Modelling group located in the UK. The central core of our UK based team is made up of approximately 12 members, covering geology, geomechanics/engineering, hydrogeology, and computer programming. Working further afield, we routinely integrate alongside our international geoscience and engineering colleagues in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Australasia on the delivery of world class consulting projects.
• A choice of office locations is available for the role, with national coverage, favouring London/Reading, Bristol, Birmingham/Nottingham and Edinburgh.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE
• Are involved in numerical modelling and programming within the scientific/engineering sectors.
• Have experience of software development in one or more of C++, Python, Fortran, and SQL.
• Are a software engineer experienced in design and implementation of bespoke scientific software solutions.
• Have a solid mathematical knowledge, with understanding of maths concepts and methods and how to apply these in code.
• Experience of GUI, and charting/visualisation development.
• Possess excellent written and verbal communications skills to effectively interface with teams and clients, including proficiency in the English language.
• Have experience of liaising directly with non-programmers to identify development routes. Hold a Master’s degree or higher in a Computer, Earth or Physical Science related field.
