Full job description
About us:
At AROA, our people come to work every day with passion and ideas that fuel our business and go home knowing they have made a real difference in the lives of others.

AROA, which is Maori for ‘understanding’, AROA is proudly New Zealand born and based. We develop, manufacture, and export innovative wound care products, improving the lives of millions around the world by unlocking extraordinary outcomes for our patients. Our mission is to be the global leader in regenerative healing, making our products and services accessible to everybody.

About the role:
We’re looking for a Senior Product Development Engineer to join our product development team based in Auckland. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who has been involved in new product development projects from early concept through to design verification testing and commercial readiness.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, technically demanding environment, and who can lead and contribute to robust testing, risk management, and design control processes within a highly regulated field.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Developing test strategies and designing experiments that support thorough design verification, ensuring our medical devices are reliable, robust, and meet all performance and regulatory requirements.
Working with other engineers to capture and manage risk, ensuring all design control documentation is complete and compliant throughout the development lifecycle.
Collaborating with internal stakeholders, clinical experts, and external development partners to bring user-centric, safe, and innovative products to life.
Ensuring development plans are executed on time, within budget, and aligned with business and regulatory expectations.
Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and mentoring intermediate and junior engineers as required.
Preparing technical documentation and reports in line with the company’s quality system.
What You’ll Bring
You’re someone who embraces technical challenges and is energized by bringing innovative solutions to life. You enjoy working in an agile, collaborative, and cross-functional environment. You are resilient, adaptable, and thrive in the face of ambiguity and change. You also have a strong sense of ownership and follow-through on complex tasks and projects. You will bring:

Demonstrated experience in designing and developing new products through to design verification and launch, preferably in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
Proven capability in developing and executing test strategies, along with a deep understanding of design verification processes and planning.
Experience leading projects, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage timelines, resources, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Strong skills in risk management and design control processes aligned with regulatory and quality standards.
Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SOLIDWORKS, Rhino 3D, CREO).
Excellent communication skills — written and verbal — with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly.
A proactive, self-starter mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.

What’s in it for you
Based in Airport Oaks with easy access to the motorway, there is plenty of free parking available around our offices. We also have an onsite gym, exercise classes and celebrations (including taking your birthday off).

The successful candidate will be working with a diverse and inclusive team that works hard but celebrates and recognises its people. We have a great time doing stuff that’s never been done before! You'll also be working for a mission-led company dedicated to bringing regenerative healing to people around the world. We’re sure that’s something worth being a part of!

To be considered for this opportunity you must have existing NZ working rights.
