Senior Production Engineer
Position Overview
The Senior Production Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting, maintaining, and optimizing all production-related technical workflows within a professional post-production setting. This position ensures that editorial, color, quality control, data management, deliverables, streaming, and mastering teams operate efficiently, reliably, and to the highest quality standards. As a technical leader, the Senior Production Engineer will troubleshoot complex issues and provide support for both on-premises and remote post-production systems.
Key Responsibilities
System Support & Maintenance
Configure, support, and maintain production equipment, monitoring environments, and infrastructure across all West Coast facilities.
Oversee HDR/SDR workflows in both episodic and theatrical environments.
Ensure all systems (ingest, NLEs, grading suites, mastering stations, servers) comply with broadcast, OTT, and studio delivery specifications.
Technical Operations Support
Deliver high-level troubleshooting skills to keep facility and client sessions operational.
Enhance system reliability and lead root-cause analysis for recurring technical issues.
Help provide solutions to client requests.
Post-Production Workflow & Pipeline
Collaborate with the workflow team to support, document, and refine end-to-end workflows for editing, color grading, VFX pulls, conforming, quality control, and final delivery.
Facilitate interoperability among various finishing tools (DaVinci Resolve, Baselight, Flame, Avid, Adobe, etc.).
Compliance & Quality Control
Ensure adherence to broadcast, theatrical, and streaming platform standards (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Apple, etc.).
Assist in maintaining QC operations concerning color accuracy, audio specifications, file formatting, and deliverables readiness.
Technology Leadership
Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices throughout the facility.
Work closely with production, editorial, and finishing teams to confirm technical feasibility and production readiness.
Qualifications
Required
8–10+ years of experience in video engineering in post-production, broadcast, or studio environments.
Expert knowledge of professional codecs, wrappers, frame rates, color science, and signal standards (SDI, IP-based video, HDR10, Dolby Vision, Rec.709/2020).
Proficient in NLEs, grading systems, and finishing tools (Avid Media Composer, Premiere, Resolve, Baselight, Flame, etc.).
Hands-on experience with shared storage systems (Quantum, Avid Nexis, SNS, OpenDrive, etc.) and networking (10/25/40/100Gb).
Capability to read scopes and calibrate displays (using SpectraCal/CalMAN or similar tools).
Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux, Windows, and macOS environments.
Preferred
Experience with cloud-based post-production environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, or proprietary cloud workflows).
Knowledge in scripting/automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
Familiarity with IMF authoring, DCP creation, and Dolby Vision mastering.
Relevant certifications in post-production or video engineering.
Soft Skills
Exceptional problem-solving skills with a calm, methodical approach under pressure.
Excellent communication abilities, with the capacity to convey technical concepts to non-technical teams.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at managing multiple priorities.
