Job Description
Senior Software Engineers use their expertise to amplify the overall impact and output
of the Product Development team. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be leading the
engineering team of a POD. You will be working very closely with the Product and Design team to
deliver high quality products.
You will be working in the team that works on building Paid Learning Experiences, which includes
• Classroom experience which includes live/recorded classes with interactivity features like
quizzes, polls etc.
• Assignment and homework with gamified learning experiences like streak, leaderboard,
scaler store and coins.
• Mentorship experience through which users can get connected with an industry expert
who matches their aspiration and get all career related queries resolved.
Paid Learning Experience is one of the most critical parts of Scaler and is the product which our
users interact with every day to progress in their learning journey. You will be leading
engineering for one of the PODs which is a part of this experience.
What you will do as a Senior Software Engineer at Scaler
• Lead a team of engineers which are responsible for Engineering of a particular POD.
• Responsible for task planning, estimation, scheduling, and staffing of a POD.
• Developing high quality software design and architecture.
• Reviewing Code of peers/juniors on a daily basis.
• Writing bug free code by following best coding practices and test driven development.
• Collaborate with Design, Product Management & other Engineering teams to build quality
product offerings for our users.
• Mentor Software Engineers to allow for skill/knowledge development through advice,
coaching, and training opportunities.
• Determine process improvements, best practices, and develop new processes.
Experience and Skills that we are looking for in this role
• 5+ years of experience as a software engineering professional.
• A proven track record of success in leading software development teams - Strong
technical mentorship is a must.
• Experience building large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems and scaling web
services that use or analyze large amounts of data.
• High level of fluency and experience in technologies like
• Ruby on Rails/Django/Flask,
• REST APIs and Best Practices to manage APIs,
• Relational Databases (MySQL/Postgresql),
• In-memory data stores (Redis/Memcached),
• Queueing systems (Sidekiq/Resque/RabbitMQ/Kafka),
• Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes/ECS-EKS-Fargate),
• Web Servers (Nginx/Apache),
• Application servers (Puma/Passenger/Unicorn etc)
• Observability (NewRelic/Grafana/Prometheus)
• Experience with software development concepts like
• Low-Level Design (Object-oriented programming and design, Design Patterns),
• High-Level Design (Scaling, Load Balancers, Caching, Consistent Hashing,
Storage, Architectural Patterns, Web and Application servers Protocols like HTTP,
WebSockets, etc)
• A passion for efficiency, collaboration, and establishing relationships with Design,
Product Management, Product Marketing, and Data teams.
• Curiosity and passion to constantly learn new things. Scaler is growing fast and we are
