Job Overview:
The Movement Planner Software Developer is responsible for designing, programming, and enhancing the Movement Planner product as part of the Network Optimization team in Digital Electronics. This role involves developing reliable software, contributing to the Scrum team, understanding and improving the planning algorithm, resolving production issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
• Design and develop reliable software using C++
• Deliver fully tested and shippable software for the Movement Planner product
• Understand and enhance the complex planning algorithm to optimize train movements and improve railroad operations
• Identify and resolve time-critical production issues
• Participate in peer reviews to ensure software quality
• Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements to existing systems and platforms
• Improve automated tests to support continuous integration and deployment
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Product Owners to maximize customer value
• Apply SDLC principles and agile methodologies
• Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality
• Break down problems, estimate development tasks, and make informed technology choices
• Serve as a subject matter expert on assigned modules and interfaces
• Drive design reviews and optimize application performance
• Document system designs clearly and concisely
• Work effectively in global teams and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or STEM Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
• 7-+ years of overall professional experience in software development life cycle
• Minimum Requirements:
• 5+ years of professional experience in Object-Oriented Programming and Design
• 5+ years of software development experience in C++ and knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms, Design Patterns
• Proficiency in Agile development methodologies such as Scrum
• Hands-on experience in testing and debugging software
• Ability to triage problems with a sense of urgency
• Strong documentation skills
• Ability to break down problems, create user stories, and estimate work effort
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Self-driven, quick learner, and results-oriented
• Ability to work well with global teams and demonstrate flexibility
• Takes ownership of tasks, mentors team members, and works collaboratively
• Experience in leading software development for new product introductions
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a scrum team environment
