About the Role:

Wing is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Geospatial Infrastructure team. This role will be based in Palo Alto, CA or Remote, US.

The Geospatial Infrastructure team is crucial to Wing's drone delivery operations, building and managing highly scalable and efficient geospatial systems. We develop data ingestion pipelines, optimized indexing schemas, and serving infrastructure for real-world geospatial data, which is essential for optimized flight planning and navigation. Our work provides the fundamental geospatial capabilities that ensure reliable and safe drone delivery services.

This position seeks highly-motivated individuals who enjoy working in a highly dynamic and collaborative team environment. The successful candidate is able to identify areas in need of investment, set solution strategy, influence team direction, and have direct impact through their technical contributions, cutting through ambiguity, and designing and building complex systems. We're looking for people who are intrinsically driven to collaborate on hard problems, drive simple solutions, and take pride in their team's work.

What You'll Do:

Set solution and/or architectural strategy for yourself or a limited number of peers, cutting through ambiguity, and pre-empt complicating factors ahead of timeDesign and build solutions that utilize asynchronous pipelines, database systems, RPC handlers in collaboration with frontend engineers and other backend engineers, in a privacy and security conscious ecosystemInvestigate and build software in areas with limited expertise and make an immediate impactCollaborate cross functionally with business partners, product managers, and program managers to design, implement and quickly launch new features for partners and end consumers, on timeMitigate, root cause and resolve urgent, time sensitive issues, in both familiar and unfamiliar software, as part of an on-call rotation, or other escalationsContribute to a team culture of support, engagement and quality, ensuring Wing can scale as a business

What You'll Need:

8+ years of experience designing and developing backend software

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience

Excellent written and verbal skills and experience working in a collaborative team

Ability to identify challenging problems and potential solutions with limited guidance, launch and successfully land the solution without any complications

Experience developing backend systems involving database schema design, and synchronous/asynchronous systems

Experience developing in C++, or ability to quickly pick up C++ with experience in similar languages like Java, or C#
