In this role, you will help architect, build, and maintain the next generation of our modern issue tracking system built on Atlassian software and in house development. You ll contribute value to Red Hats customers, partners and community by enhancing external and internal systems as part of an agile and globally distributed operations and development team. As a Senior Software Engineer, you ll get the opportunity to work with many technologies, including Java, Linux, MySQL, Ansible, Python, Perl, and other technologies. • Develop, customize, and maintain the Red Hat Issue Tracker application interfaces, along with other internal applications and environment to meet our long term business needs
• Install and upgrade to the latest issue tracking software version, including upgrades of Jira and Confluence plug-ins workflow, modifying the plug-ins and workflow to take advantage of the new tracking software version
• Maintain and provide support for the existing in-house Red Hat Issue Tracker application, ensuring optimal uptime and finding ways to prevent downtime
• Modify the existing in-house Red Hat Issue Tracker system to address the business needs
• Analyze and evaluate business requirements and define the most efficient and appropriate solutions
• Develop and implement new custom plug-ins and corresponding documentation and user guides
• Act as the Red Hat Issue Tracker expert in troubleshooting critical production problems, providing technical support and resolution to end-users
• Monitor Jira and Confluence support queue for any issues and providing the resolution, workaround, or code fix to resolve the issue
• Review and optimize existing Java source codes
• Perform unit tests and integration testing before deploying Jira and Confluence in production environment
• Contribute to the improvement of our internal processes
• Work closely with the product manager, coordinate with other development and support teams, and interact with end-users
• Troubleshoot infrastructure problems related to application, web server, web services, and databases
What you will bring
• 5+ years of professional experience in Jira, Confluence plug-in, and Java applications development
• Engineering degree in computer science, IT, software system, or equivalent field
• Excellent knowledge of Jira and Confluence development using the Jira API and Jira and Confluence or Marketplace plug-ins
• Willingness to learn quickly about the existing applications and quickly be productive
• Solid ability in analyzing the existing plug-in code and modify the same for business needs
• Excellent ability to write new plug-ins for Jira and Confluence
• Immense practical experience in maintaining and supporting Jira and Confluence applications, including transactions handling, customizations, and exceptions handling
• Good knowledge of Java Web Services development and maintaining the same
