Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA)
Our Federal Government Client is seeking for a Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to administer, maintain, and optimise Microsoft SQL Server databases to ensure high availability and performance.
This is a contract role for 12 months with 2x12 months extension options based in their Canberra or Sydney, and Perth office.
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
• Administer, maintain, and optimise Microsoft SQL Server databases to ensure high availability and performance.
• Implement backup, and disaster recovery strategies for Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and other database environments.
• Perform performance tuning and query optimisation for Microsoft SQL, PostgreSQL, and other databases.
• Design and implement database security policies, access controls, and user permissions.
• Lead the administration of databases. Including setup, maintenance, and monitoring.
• Develop and maintain database automation scripts for routine tasks.
• Work closely with development teams to optimise stored procedures, indexing, and query execution.
• Conduct database capacity planning and resource allocation to ensure optimal system performance.
• Document database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
• Stay up to date with Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and other database technology advancements and recommend improvements.
Essential criteria
1. 5+ years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Database Administrator.
2. Strong understanding of T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing, and query optimisation.
3. Experience in database security, access control, and compliance.
4. Strong practical experience using scripting for database automation.
5. Experience with PostgreSQL administration, including database setup, maintenance, and query optimisation.
6. Experience with cloud-based database solutions (Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS for SQL Server/PostgreSQL).
Desirable criteria
1. Knowledge of NoSQL databases and modern data architectures.
2. Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
3. Experience working with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerised environments.
