Overview:

The Senior Technical Accountant will join our Technical Accounting Group (TAG), with responsibility for providing accounting advice and support to the treasury team’s clients, the technical advisory group and client relationship managers.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have UK Public Sector Technical Accounting experience. Preferably from working in a local authority role, other sectors such as NHS will also be considered.

The team are problem solvers and this is a great role, allowing you to deepen your existing technical accounting knowledge, all whilst being supported by a collaborative team.

Location: Hybrid / homeworking with occasional travel.

What you need:

As with any role, we want to find the right person and we want to make sure you know it’s the right role for you too. You will need:

• Demonstrable UK technical accounting experience, preferably within local government, but would consider other public sector experience, for example in the NHS

• Proven technical capability as a driven finance professional, with the ability to deliver to a high standard

• ACA / ACCA / CIMA / CPFA qualified with minimum 5+ years’ and post qualification experience

• Evidenced knowledge and application of CIFA Code of Practice / UK GAAP and familiarity with Local Government Financial Regulations

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft windows operating systems

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to explain complex financial information, building and maintaining strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders

• A professional demeanour with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

• Excellent time management, with the drive, desire and resilience to work on multiple projects whilst ensuring deadlines are met and committing to exemplary client service delivery

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to self-motivate and motivate others within the team and wider business

• Flexibility, with the ability to travel to client engagements as and when required

Day to Day, you will:

• Provide technical accounting support as part of the TAG team

• Assist in the delivery of technical accounting services to the treasury team, TAG and the technical accounting team engagements for clients

• Assist in the delivery of consultancy based work as defined in client specification(s), to provide technical accounting advice as required, maintain regular contact with internal colleagues in order to manage the expectations of clients and ensure their satisfaction

• Support TAG, client relationship managers and executives in technical accounting queries

• Develop, participate in and assist with any marketing initiatives, whether conferences, seminars, events and publications

• Understand and clearly present complex financial information and problems, arriving at solutions in wiring and verbally in an appropriate way

• Produce technical accounting work delivered by TAG, including Balance Sheet Reviews, Fair Value reports and Due Diligence reports to assess options of investments

• Assist in the preparation of training material / publications and present training to clients in technical workshops / seminars on areas such as Treasury Management Strategies and Prudential indicators, as well as relevant technical accounting changes, with support from the Team as required

• Support the research and development of technical accounting changes and the support of consultation responses
